Absence of topological effects in the gauged SU(2) nonlinearσmodel in 2+1 dimensions

Percacci, R.
We first review the θ sectors of the pure SU(2) nonlinear σ model and the quantization of the topological mass in the SU(2) Yang-Mills theory in 2+1 dimensions. We then show that when the two models are coupled the θ sectors disappear and the topological mass need not be quantized. We work in a canonical formalism and emphasize the role of functional magnetic fields.

Conserved Killing charges of quadratic curvature gravity theories in arbitrary backgrounds
Devecioglu, Deniz Olgu; Sarıoğlu, Bahtiyar Özgür (2011-01-24)
We extend the Abbott-Deser-Tekin procedure of defining conserved quantities of asymptotically constant-curvature spacetimes, and give an analogous expression for the conserved charges of geometries that are solutions of quadratic curvature gravity models in generic D dimensions and that have arbitrary asymptotes possessing at least one Killing isometry. We show that the resulting charge expression correctly reduces to its counterpart when the background is taken to be a space of constant curvature and, more...
Density functional theory investigation of two-dimensional dipolar fermions in a harmonic trap
Toffoli, Hande; TANATAR, BİLAL (2014-08-13)
We investigate the behavior of polarized dipolar fermions in a two-dimensional harmonic trap in the framework of the density functional theory (DFT) formalism using the local density approximation. We treat only a few particles interacting moderately. Important results were deduced concerning key characteristics of the system such as total energy and particle density. Our results indicate that, at variance with Coulombic systems, the exchangecorrelation component was found to provide a large contribution to...
Suppression of Excited gamma States Relative to the Ground State in Pb-Pb Collisions at root s(NN)=5.02 TeV
Sirunyan, A. M.; et. al. (American Physical Society (APS), 2018-04-01)
The relative yields of gamma mesons produced in pp and Pb-Pb collisions at root s(NN) = 5.02 TeV and reconstructed via the dimuon decay channel are measured using data collected by the CMS experiment. Double ratios are formed by comparing the yields of the excited states, gamma(2S) and gamma(3S), to the ground state, gamma(1S), in both Pb-Pb and pp collisions at the same center-of-mass energy. The double ratios, [gamma(nS)/gamma(1S)](Pb-Pb)/[gamma(nS)/gamma(1S)](PP), are measured to be 0.308 +/- 0.055(stat)...
Search for Leptoquarks Coupled to Third-Generation Quarks in Proton-Proton Collisions at root s=13 TeV
Sirunyan, A. M.; et. al. (American Physical Society (APS), 2018-12-01)
Three of the most significant measured deviations from standard model predictions, the enhanced decay rate for B -> D-(*())tau nu, hints of lepton universality violation in B -> K-(*())ll decays, and the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon, can be explained by the existence of leptoquarks (LQs) with large couplings to third-generation quarks and masses at the TeV scale. The existence of these states can be probed at the LHC in high energy proton-proton collisions. A novel search is presented for pair prod...

We calculated the Stokes parameters which characterize the polarization properties of the photons produced in the decay b-->s gamma g in the framework of the Standard Model (SM) and Two Higgs Doublet Model (2HDM). It is shown that the Stokes parameter xi 3, which defines the linear photon polarization with a polarization vector in the decay plane, is very sensitive to the parameters of the above-mentioned models. The predicted values of xi(3) are large enough (in some cases it achieves the maximum possible ...
