A variational treatment of a two-dimensional polaron

1987-1
The ground state energy of a two-dimensional (2D) Fröhlich polaron is investigated with the variational scheme recently proposed by Devreese el al. The calculation is based on a suitable modification of the strong-coupling approximation by means of which adiabatic theory extrapolates towards the weak-coupling regime.

A One Line Numerical Model for Wind Wave Induced Shoreline Changes
Ergin, Ayşen; Güler, Işıkhan; Yalçıner, Ahmet Cevdet; Baykal, Cüneyt (null; 2006-10-13)
A numerical model is developed to determine wind wave induced shoreline changes by solving sand continuity equation and taking one line theory as a base, in existence of Igroins and T-groins, whose dimensions and locations may be given arbitrarily. The model computes the transformation of deep water wave characteristics up to the surf zone and eventually gives the result of shoreline changes with user-friendly visual outputs. Herein, a modification to a readily accepted one-line model as sheltering effect o...
A search for new phenomena in pp collisions at root s=13TeV in final states with missing transverse momentum and at least one jet using the alpha(T) variable
Khachatryan, V.; et. al. (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2017-05-01)
A search for new phenomena is performed in final states containing one or more jets and an imbalance in transverse momentum in pp collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. The analysed data sample, recorded with the CMS detector at the CERN LHC, corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 2.3 fb(-1). Several kinematic variables are employed to suppress the dominant background, multijet production, as well as to discriminate between other standard model and new physics processes. The search provides se...
A NEW EMPIRICAL MANY-BODY POTENTIAL-ENERGY FUNCTION - APPLICATION TO MICROCLUSTERS
Erkoç, Şakir (Wiley, 1989-04-01)
A new empirical many‐body potential energy function is proposed which comprises two‐ and three‐body interactions. The two‐body potential is a kind of hybrid function and the three‐body potential is expressed in terms of the two‐body interactions. The parameters of the potential energy function can be easily evaluated using dimer data and the bulk cohesive energy of the system considered. The proposed potential energy function is parameterized for several elements in f.c.c., b.c.c., and diamond structures an...
A novel two-parameter modulation and neutral point potential control method for the three-level neutral point clamped inverter
Üstüntepe, Bülent; Hava, Ahmet Masum; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2005)
In this thesis, the neutral point potential drift/fluctuation of the three-level neutral point clamped inverter is analyzed and a novel control algorithm, the two-parameter PWM method is proposed to confine the neutral point potential variation to a very small range. The two-parameter PWM method provides superior neutral point potential control performance even with small DC bus capacitors. The method is based on PWM pulse pattern modification and requires no additional hardware. Detailed analytical models ...
A Karhunen-Loeve based galerkin approximation to Boussinesq equation
Tarman, Işık Hakan (1996-11-01)
The Boussinesq equation which is derived from the Navier-Stokes equation is approximated by the amplitude equations constructed through the Karhunen-Loeve (K-L) based Galerkin projection. The construction is worked out in a systematic way and some numerical experiments are performed. It is shown numerically that K-L based Galerkin approximation provides a satisfactory and robust description of the dynamics with an involvement of a relatively low degrees of freedom.
