In this study, we compared the effectiveness of two approaches to effort estimation for organizations utilizing SCRUM. We compared SCRUM's native effort estimation method Story Points and poker planning, with effort estimation models based on COSMIC Function Points (CFP) for a selection of projects. We utilized different regression models and ANN methodology to develop estimation model from the backlog stories. Results indicated that, estimation model built with COSMIC measurement results prove to be a better method for effort estimation than SCRUM's story points

Common Practices and Problems in Effort Data Collection in the Software Industry
Özkaya Eren, Ayşegül; Demirors, Onur (2011-11)
Effort data is crucial for project management activities in software projects. This data is utilized in estimations that are required for project planning, in the formation of benchmarking data sets and as a main input for project monitoring and control activities. However, there are known problems regarding effort data collection in the industry. In this study we investigate the effort data collection practices in the industry and factors that lead to inaccurate effort data collection. A pilot study was co...
Assessment of web-based courses: a discussion and analysis of learners individual difference and teaching-learning process
Gülbahar, Yasemin; Yıldırım, İbrahim Soner; Department of Computer Education and Instructional Technology (2002)
This study examined the role of individual differences and the quality of the teaching-learning process on learning outcomes in a web-based instructional environment, and explored the implications of these variables on the design, delivery and evaluation stages of web-based instruction. The subjects of this study were the students of two web-supported traditional courses, being one undergraduate and the other graduate, offered by the Computer Education and Instructional Technologies Department of METU. Fort...

The aim of this study is to build an evaluation framework for the user-centric testing of the Data Curation Tool. The tool was developed in the scope of the FAIR4Health project to make health data FAIR by transforming them from legacy formats into a Common Data Model based on HL7 FHIR. The end user evaluation framework was built by following a methodology inspired from the Delphi method. We applied a series of questionnaires to a group of experts not only in different roles and skills, but also from various...
Job satisfaction and its relation with perceived workload: an application in a research institution
Harputlu, Şeniz; Çilingir, Canan; Department of Industrial Engineering (2014)
In this thesis, it was aimed to determine the factors which affect the satisfaction level of employees and measure these levels by using both global/general and facet approach. For this purpose, a new job satisfaction questionnaire with 70 questions was formed by adding some necessary questions to an existent Turkish survey previously used in a study which is based on Spector’s Job Satisfaction Survey (JSS). NASA-TLX questionnaire was attached to the satisfaction survey for measurement of mental workload. T...
Interactive Approaches to Multiple Criteria Sorting Problems: Entropy-Based Question Selection Methods
Özarslan, Ali; Karakaya, Gülşah (2022-08-01)
In this study, interactive approaches for sorting alternatives evaluated on multiple criteria are developed. The possible category ranges of alternatives are defined by mathematical models iteratively under the assumption that the preferences of the decision maker (DM) are consistent with an additive utility function. Simulation-based and model-based parameter generation methods are proposed to hypothetically assign the alternatives to categories. A practical approach to solve the incompatibility problem of...
