Hydrous aluminosilicate metasomatism in an intra-oceanic subduction zone: Implications from the Kurancali (Turkey) ultramafic-mafic cumulates within the Alpine Neotethys Ocean
Toksoy Köksal, Fatma; Göncüoğlu, Mehmet Cemal (2009-03-01)
The Kurancali ultramafic-mafic cumulate body, an allochthonous ophiolitic sliver in central Anatolia, is characterized by the presence of abundant hydrous phases (phlogopite, pargasite) besides augitic diopside, plagioclase, and accessory amounts of rutile, sphene, apatite, zircon, and calcite. Based on modes of the essential minerals, the olivine-orthopyroxene-free cumulates are grouped as clinopyroxenite, hydrous clinopyroxenite, phlogopitite, hornblendite, layered gabbro, and diorite. Petrographical, min...

Hydrogeochemical characterization and conceptual modeling of the Edremit geothermal field (NW Turkey)
Avşar, Özgür; Güleç, Nilgün Türkan; Parlaktuna, Mahmut (Elsevier BV, 2013-07-15)
The Edremit geothermal field, with 42-62 degrees C discharge temperatures, is utilized for space heating. Alternation of permeable and impermeable units created two superimposed aquifers in the area: an upper unconfined and a lower confined. Water samples from 21 (hot-cold) wells were taken in this study. 8 of these wells penetrate the deeper confined aquifer, while 13 penetrate the shallower unconfined aquifer. Geochemical analyses revealed that Na + K - SO4 (>40 degrees C), Ca - HCO3 (<30 degrees C) and C...
Hydrothermal alteration products in the vicinity of the Ahirozu kaolin deposits, Mihaliccik-Eskisehir, Turkey
Sayit, Isil Omeroglu; Günal Türkmenoğlu, Asuman; Sayin, S. Ali; Demirci, Cengiz (Mineralogical Society, 2018-06-01)
The mineralogy, texture and composition of rocks associated with the kaolin deposits in the Ahirozu-Hamidiye-Ucbasli area, SE of Mihaliccik, Eskisehir, Turkey, were investigated. In the study area, Triassic, blue-green schists and serpentinized ultramafic rocks are exposed. Kaolinization occurs at the contact between a Triassic granitic intrusion and metamorphic rocks. Textural and mineralogical characteristics were identified by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy-energy dispersive X-r...
Hydro-mechanical behavior of unsaturated specimens isotropically reconstituted from slurry and compacted specimens
Ahmadi Naghadeh, Reza; Toker, Nabi Kartal; Department of Civil Engineering (2016)
Response of unsaturated soils constitutes an important consideration for many problems in geotechnical engineering. The main objective of this study is to understand coupling hydro-mechanical behavior of the unsaturated reconstituted specimens from slurry and moist-tamped compacted specimen, and to develop practical and cost-effective testing equipment and procedure. The innovations that will be put forth by this study will make the unsaturated soil mechanics more accessible and appealing to those practical...
