The method of airborne laser scanning - also named as ALS - has recently turned out to be an efficient way for generating high quality digital surface and elevation models. In this work, wavelet-based outlier detection of airborne laser scanning data is discussed. The task is to investigate the effect of wavelet-based outlier detection for post-processing. Data and results are analyzed and visualized by using a MATLAB program which was developed during this work.

Wavelet-based outlier detection and denoising of airborne laser scanning data
Akyay, Tolga; Karslıoğlu, Mahmut Onur; Department of Geodetic and Geographical Information Technologies (2008)
The method of airborne laser scanning also named as LIDAR has recently turned out to be an efficient way for generating high quality digital surface and elevation models. In this work, wavelet-based outlier detection and different wavelet thresholding (wavelet shrinkage) methods for denoising of airborne laser scanning data are discussed. The task is to investigate the effect of wavelet-based outlier detection and find out which wavelet thresholding methods provide best denoising results for post-processi...
Airborne Laser Scanning Data for Tree Characteristics Detection
Vazirabad, Y. F.; Karslıoğlu, Mahmut Onur (2010-10-13)
Airborne laser scanning (ALS) technology provides a distinctive, innovative, accurate and cost effective approach to forest inventory. ALS data is used for information extraction with respect to the detection of tree characteristics like height, diameter at breast height (dbh) and crown diameter. Also, timber volume and biomass can be estimated from this information. Forest studies and applications aim to achieve the operational fast methods and reliable results. It is possible if the data contain dense poi...
A Graph Signal Filtering Based Approach for Detection of Different Edge Typeson Airborne LiDAR Data
Bayram, Eda; Vural, Elif; Alatan, Abdullah Aydın (2017-09-12)
Airborne Laser Scanning is a well-known remote sensing technology, which provides a dense and highly accurate, yet unorganized point cloud of earth surface. During the last decade, extracting information from the data generated by airborne LiDAR systems has been addressed by many studies in geo-spatial analysis and urban monitoring applications. However, the processing of LiDAR point clouds is challenging due to their irregular structure and 3D geometry. In this study, we propose a novel framework for the d...
HYPERSPECTRAL IMAGES AND LIDAR BASED DEM FUSION: A MULTI-MODAL LANDUSE CLASSIFICATION STRATEGY
Demirkesen, Can; Teke, Mustafa; Sakarya, Ufuk (2014-07-18)
Hyperspectral imaging based land cover / land use classification accuracy is expected to be improved by fusion with a LIDAR based Digital Elevation Model (DEM). To this end, we propose a multi-modal architecture, as well as a filtering technique extracting a shadow invariant one dimensional feature from a pixel spectrum. The proposed approach allows treating shadow and non-shadow areas separately. DEM is incorporated into this architecture through feature extraction and post classification procedures. A dig...
Automatic building detection from high resolution satellite images
Koc, D; Turker, M (2005-06-11)
An approach was developed to update the buildings of existing vector database from high resolution satellite images using image classification, Digital Elevation Models (DEM) and object extraction techniques. First, the satellite image is classified using the Maximum Likelihood Classifier (MLC). The classified output provides the shapes and the approximate locations of the buildings. Next, a normalized Digital Surface Model (nDSM) is generated by subtracting the Digital Terrain Model (DTM) from the Digital ...
