Critical behaviour of the thermodynamic quantities near the melting point in the solid phase of hexadecane

2008-01-01
We study here critical behaviour of the thermodynamic quantities such as thermal expansivity alpha(p), isothermal compressibility k(T) and the specific heat C-p close to the melting point in solid hexadecane. By analyzing experimental data for the thermal expansivity measured at various pressures for constant temperatures of 302 and 325 K, we calculate the pressure dependence of the isothermal compressibility k(T) and specific heat C-p near the melting point in solid hexadecane. We then establish the Pippard relations (C-p vs. alpha(p) and alpha(p) vs. k(T)) for this molecular organic compound close to its melting point.

Critical behaviour of ammonia near the melting point
Yurtseven, Hasan Hamit (2002-08-01)
This study gives our calculations for thermodynamic quantities, such as the isothermal cornpressibility k(T), thermal expansivity alphap and the specific heat C-P, as a function of temperature for solid ammonia near the melting point. Our calculations, which have been performed on the basis of an experimental study given in the literature, show that those thermodynamic quantities diver e near the melting point in ammonia. This is an indication that ammonia exhibits a critical transition as one approaches th...
Molar volume calculated at various pressures and the Pippard relations close to the melting point in benzene
Yurtseven, Hasan Hamit (2016-03-03)
The molar volume of solid and liquid benzene was calculated at various pressures (at constant temperatures), and the Pippard relations were examined close to the melting point in this organic molecule. The molar volume calculated is in good agreement with the observed data, which decreases as the pressure increases up to about 150 MPa. The Pippard relations are also valid within this pressure range at constant temperatures studied here for the solid and liquid phases of benzene.
Specific heat related to the Raman frequency shifts for the rotatory mode in ammonia solid I close to the melting point
Karacali, H; Yurtseven, Hasan Hamit (2006-03-01)
This study gives an evidence for the validity of our spectroscopic modification of the Pippard relation as apphed to ammonia solid I close to the melting point. We use our calculated frequencies for the rotatory lattice (librational) mode in ammonia solid I for the pressures of 0, 1.93 and 3.07 kbars. We obtain that the specific heat C-p varies linearly with the frequency shifts 1/v(delta v/delta T)(p) for this Raman mode at those pressures studied in this crystalline system. Our values of the slope dP(m)/d...
Thermodynamic properties of the high-pressure phases in solid nitrogen close to phase transitions
Akay, Özge; Yurtseven, Hasan Hamit; Department of Physics (2020-11)
In this thesis, the physical properties of solid nitrogen are investigated in a wide range of temperature and pressure by analyzing experimental data from the literature. For this investigation, various models are implemented to the experimental data in order to evaluate observed behavior of thermodynamic and spectroscopic properties of solid nitrogen. By means of the calculating Grüneisen parameter which depends on the volume, the pressure and temperature dependence of the Raman and IR frequencies are estima...
Critical behaviour of the Raman frequency shifts in the vicinity of the lambda-phase transition in NH4Br
Yurtseven, Hasan Hamit (2006-01-01)
This study gives the temperature dependence of the Raman frequencies for the lattice mode of upsilon(7) (TA) and the internal mode of upsilon(2) close to the X-phase transition (T-lambda=234K, P=\) in NB4Br.
