Critical behaviour of ammonia near the melting point

2002-08-01
This study gives our calculations for thermodynamic quantities, such as the isothermal cornpressibility k(T), thermal expansivity alphap and the specific heat C-P, as a function of temperature for solid ammonia near the melting point. Our calculations, which have been performed on the basis of an experimental study given in the literature, show that those thermodynamic quantities diver e near the melting point in ammonia. This is an indication that ammonia exhibits a critical transition as one approaches the melting point in this system.

Critical behaviour of the thermodynamic quantities near the melting point in the solid phase of hexadecane
Yurtseven, Hasan Hamit (2008-01-01)
We study here critical behaviour of the thermodynamic quantities such as thermal expansivity alpha(p), isothermal compressibility k(T) and the specific heat C-p close to the melting point in solid hexadecane. By analyzing experimental data for the thermal expansivity measured at various pressures for constant temperatures of 302 and 325 K, we calculate the pressure dependence of the isothermal compressibility k(T) and specific heat C-p near the melting point in solid hexadecane. We then establish the Pippar...
Molar volume calculated at various pressures and the Pippard relations close to the melting point in benzene
Yurtseven, Hasan Hamit (2016-03-03)
The molar volume of solid and liquid benzene was calculated at various pressures (at constant temperatures), and the Pippard relations were examined close to the melting point in this organic molecule. The molar volume calculated is in good agreement with the observed data, which decreases as the pressure increases up to about 150 MPa. The Pippard relations are also valid within this pressure range at constant temperatures studied here for the solid and liquid phases of benzene.
Calculation of the Damping Constant and the Relaxation Time for the Soft-Optic and Acoustic Mode in Hexagonal Barium Titanate
Yurtseven, Hasan Hamit (2012-01-01)
The temperature dependence of the damping constant is calculated below the transition temperature (T-0 = 222K) in the ferroelectric phase of hexagonal barium titanate. The damping constant of the coupled soft-optic and acoustic mode which causes an intense central peak in the light scattering spectra, is calculated using the soft mode-hard mode coupling model and the energy fluctuation model for barium titanate.
Application of the spectroscopic modifications of Pippard relations to NaNO2 in the ferroelectric phase
Yurtseven, Hasan Hamit (2001-01-01)
This study examines a linear variation of the specific heat C-P with the frequency shifts 1/nu(partial derivative nu/partial derivativeT) for the Brillouin frequencies of the L-mode [010], [001] and [100] in the ferroelectric phase of NaNO2 according to our spectroscopically modified Pippard relation. We obtain this linear relationship for those modes studied and calculate dT(C)/dP in the ferroelectric phase of NaNO2. Our calculated values of dT(C)/dP for the [001] and [100] modes are in good agreement with...
Spectroscopic modifications of the Pippard relations for NaNO2 in the sinusoidal antiferroelectric phase
Tari, O; Yurtseven, Hasan Hamit (2002-06-01)
We establish in this study a linear variation of the specific heat C-p with the frequency shifts (1/nu)(partial derivativenu/partial derivativeT) in the sinusoidal antiferroelectric phase of NaNO2, according to the first Pippard relation which we have modified spectroscopically. For this linear relationship we use the Brillouin frequencies of acoustic phonon modes for the q[010], q[001] and q[100] modes of NaNO2 in the sinusoidal antiferroelectric phase. We then calculate dT/dP values due to those modes stu...
