Rheological characterization of a model suspension containing hydroxyl-terminated polybutadiene and glass beads with filler concentration up to 30% by volume was performed by using a Haake parallel disk rheometer. The rheological tests conducted were the measurement of the storage modulus, G', loss modulus, G ", and complex viscosity, eta*, as functions of the frequency and the steady shear viscosity as a function of the shear rate. The linear viscoelastic region was determined to extend up to 50% strain by measuring G', G ", and eta* as functions of strain amplitude. By using multiple gap separations between the disks, it was found that the suspension did not exhibit slip at the walls of the rheometer. G' and G " were used to determine the relaxation times distribution, G(i)(lambda(i), empty set) as functions of the relaxation time, lambda(i), and the filler content, empty set. The relaxation moduli, G(i)(lambda(i), empty set), decreased with the relaxation time, but increased with the filler content. The Cox-Merz rule was also observed to be valid for these suspensions. Linear viscoelastic properties of polymeric suspensions
Bayram, G; Yılmazer, Ülkü; Orbey, N (1999-05-06)
Linear viscoelastic properties of a model suspension containing hydroxyl terminated polybutadiene (HTPB) and glass beads with filler concentration up to 30% by volume were investigated by using a Haake parallel disk rheometer. For all the suspensions, it was observed that the rheological properties such as the storage modulus, G', loss modulus, G" and complex viscosity, eta* increases with the filler content, Phi. The relaxation spectra was calculated by using G' and G". The relaxation moduli, G(i)(lambda(i...
Hydrothermal and microwave synthesis of boron phosphate, BPO(4)
Baykal, Altan; Toprak, M; Kniep, R (2001-01-01)
BPO4 was previously synthesized by the solid state reactions of (NH4)(2)HPO4 and B2O3 at 1000 degreesC and was characterized by X-ray powder diffraction and IR methods. We have now succeeded in preparing BPO4 from H3BO3 and P2O5 using hydrothermal synthesis by heating at 160 degreesC for 2 days and obtained a single phase product. We observed that a microwave-assisted synthesis takes only 3 to 5 minutes to transform a solid mixture of (NH4)(2)B4O7. 4H(2)O, and solid H3PO4 Or B2O3 + P2O5 into the crystalline...
Optical properties of Cu3In5S9 single crystals by spectroscopic ellipsometry
Işık, Mehmet; Nasser, H.; Ahmedova, F.; Guseinov, A.; Hasanlı, Nızamı (2018-01-01)
Cu3In5S9 single crystals were investigated by structural methods of x-ray diffraction and energy dispersive spectroscopy and optical techniques of ellipsometry and reflection carried out at room temperature. The spectral dependencies of optical constants; dielectric function, refractive index and extinction coefficient, were plotted in the range of 1.2-6.2 eV from ellipsometric data. The spectra of optical constants obtained from ellipsometry analyses and reflectance spectra presented a sharp change around ...
Nano-organic carbon and soot particle measurements in a laminar ethylene diffusion flame
D'anna, A.; Rolando, A.; Allouis, Christophe Gerard; Minutolo, P.; D'alessio, A. (2004-01-01)
The formation of carbonaceous particulates in a co-flow laminar diffusion flame was studied using UV-visible spectroscopy and laser scattering/extinction techniques for measurements of volume fraction and particle sizes. Measurements were performed in a non-smoking ethylene-air flame at 1 atm. The mean size of nano organic carbon particles was ∼ 2-3 nm, which was in agreement with previous results obtained in rich premixed flames with equivalence ratios across the soot formation threshold. Nano-organic carb...
Viscosity measurement and modeling of lipid supercritical carbon dioxide mixtures
Yener, Meryem Esra; Rizvi, SSH; Harriott, P (1998-01-31)
The viscosities of supercritical carbon dioxide (SC-CO2) containing different levels of methyl oleate and oleic acid were measured with a high pressure capillary viscometer. The SC-CO2-methyl oleate system was evaluated at 313.15, 323.15 and 333.15 K and 11.5, 13.7 and 15.5 MPa, respectively. The SC-CO2-oleic acid system was evaluated at 313.15 K and 20.5 and 30.0 MPa and 333.15 K and 30.0 MPa. The increase in SC-CO2 viscosity was as high as 15-20% at the maximum methyl oleate concentrations (4-5 wt%) and 6...
