This work introduces a near real-time dynamic orbit determination program for small satellites. A quality check of orbit data on ground is important for satellites with GPS positioning that is only available at discrete time epochs because of the limited power-supply onboard, so that space-borne GPS receivers are switched on/off intermittently, or because of possible malfunctioning of GPS receivers. The method of parameter estimation with space-borne GPS position fixes as observations is based on an extended Gauss–Markoff model which corresponds to a Bayesian least-square estimation with informative priors for the parameter vector. Such an approach in context with a dynamic model determines a best-fitting satellite orbit and allows detecting outliers or bridging of data gaps where GPS measurements are missing. It can also estimate other important parameters such as the satellite's drag or radiation pressure coefficients. Observations and parameters are dynamically managed by a database management system. The attached program is written in Visual Basic 5, C/C++ and runs on MS Windows 95/NT or later.

Mathematical modeling of steam-assisted gravity drainage
Akın, Serhat (Elsevier BV, 2006-03-01)
A mathematical model for gravity drainage in heavy-oil reservoirs and tar sands during steam injection in linear geometry is proposed. The mathematical model is based on experimental observations that the steam zone shape is an inverted triangle with the vertex fixed at the bottom production well. Both temperature and asphaltene content dependence of viscosity of the drained heavy oil and their impact on heavy oil production are considered. The developed model has been validated using experimental data pres...
Image Chain Simulation for Earth Observation Satellites
Alici, Kamil B.; Öktem, Sevinç Figen; Karci, Ozgur; Yilmaz, A. Serdar; Selimoglu, Ozgur (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), 2019-10-01)
We present a general-purpose end-to-end image chain simulation (ICS) that enables to assess the image quality of a satellite imager for Earth observations. The image chain consists of four main components: radiometry, atmosphere, optics, and detector. In particular, ICS first computes the input radiance from the reflectance values of a high-resolution input, and then calculates the image radiance by using the optical transfer function (OTF) of the overall system. This OTF contains all the distortion effects...
A ground-based orbit determination for BILSAT
Karslıoğlu, Mahmut Onur; Friedrich, J; Urhan, H (2005-06-11)
This paper describes a ground-based orbit determination algorithm for the remote sensing satellite BILSAT. A near-real time quality control of orbit data in the ground station is of vital importance to detect outliers or to bridge data gaps where position information is not available. These might result both from possible temporary mal-functioning and intermittently on/off switching of the onboard GPS receiver. A dynamic approach is preferred for the orbit determination because it includes not only outlier'...
Near Real Time Orbit Detemination of BILSAT-1
Erdogan, Eren; Karslıoğlu, Mahmut Onur (2009-06-13)
Reduced dynamic models combined with GPSObservations on board the satellites within an extended Kalman Filtering algorithm increases the accuracy of near real time orbit determination. Gravity model as the main force and numerical integration methods are the key concepts in the GPS based reduced dynamic orbit determination. EGM 2008 Earth Gravity Model represented by U.S. National Geospatial Intelligence Agency (NGA) EGM Development Group offers a new model for the determination of gravity accelerations. S...
Evaluation of SeaWiFS chlorophyll-a in the Black and Mediterranean seas
Sancak, S; Besiktepe, ST; Yılmaz, Ayşen; Lee, M; Frouin, R (Informa UK Limited, 2005-05-20)
The performance of NASA's OC2 and OC4 algorithms to estimate chlorophyll-a concentrations from SeaWiFS radiometric measurements on the global scale was tested in two contrasted bio-optical environments, the Black Sea and the Mediterranean Sea. The in situ bio-optical measurements were made during October 1999 at 25 stations. Comparisons of the in situ measurements with the concurrent SeaWiFS retrievals indicate that the OC2 and OC4 algorithms are not working satisfactorily in both seas. Case 2 waters domina...
