Pressure leaching of Sivrihisar-Yunus Emre nickel laterites
Seçen, Berk; Topkaya, Yavuz Ali; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2011)
The aim of this thesis study was to extract nickel and cobalt from Sivrihisar limonitic nickel laterite ore by high pressure acid leaching (HPAL) method under most economical operating parameters. Optimizing the conditions to yield a saleable quality mixed hydroxide product from the pregnant leach solution (PLS) was also investigated. To extract high amounts of nickel and cobalt from the laterite matrix; leaching duration, leaching temperature and sulfuric acid/ore ratio were studied at fixed conditions of ...
Electrothermal atomic absorption spectrometric determination of gold by vapor formation and in situ trapping in graphite tubes
Ertaş, Gülay; Ataman, Osman Yavuz (2004-10-01)
Gold was determined in ore samples following generation, separation, collection on a graphite cuvette inner wall, and atomization of its volatile species formed by combining an acidified sample solution with an aqueous sodium tetrahydroborate solution at room temperature. A detection limit of 2.6 mug L-1 (3sigma) was obtained with a 5.0 mL sample volume. Precision of replicate measurements was typically 10% RSD. The overall efficiency of the volatile species generation, transport, and trapping process was 0...
Empirical evaluation of storage materials and conditions for propellant grade white fuming nitric acid
Saç, Kaan; Üner, Deniz; Eşiyok, Hacı; Department of Chemical Engineering (2022-12-2)
The stability of propellant grade white fuming nitric acid (WFNA) during storage was investigated experimentally. A custom method was developed to monitor the propellant storage up to 600 hours at elevated temperatures. Two sets of test matrices were designed: a control test matrix was conducted for safety and test system qualification, and the master test matrix was carried out to assess the WFNA storage. The test parameters were selected as follows: two different ullage space values – 13.0% & 19% –, five ...
EVALUATION OF PYRITIC TAILINGS FROM A COPPER CONCENTRATION PLANT FOR CALCAREOUS SODIC SOIL RECLAMATION
TOZSİN, Gülşen; Arol, Ali İhsan; ÇAYCI, GÖKHAN (2014-01-01)
This study was aimed to investigate the feasibility to use waste pyrite and sulphuric acid produced from waste pyrite for the reclamation of calcareous sodic soils. The final aim is to displace Na from an exchange complex and replace it with Ca, leading to a decrease in pH and exchangeable sodium percentage (ESP) and an improvement of soil structure. A fertility of the soil may also be enhanced by this technique since waste pyrite can be rich in several micronutrients. An additional advantage to this strate...
Terahertz Time-Domain Study of Silver Nanoparticles Synthesized by Laser Ablation in Organic Liquid
Koral, Can; ORTAÇ, Bülend; Altan, Hakan (2016-07-01)
We report the investigation of laser-synthesized Ag nanoparticles (Ag-NPs) in an organic liquid environment by using terahertz time-domain spectroscopy (THz-TDS) technique. Colloidal Ag-NPs with an average diameter of 10 nm in two-propanol solution through nanosecond pulsed laser ablation were synthesized. THz-TDS measurements were performed on different volumetric concentration of Ag-NPs suspensions placed in 2-mm path length quartz cuvette. Due to the dispersive and highly absorptive nature of the nano li...
