Over the years, structural analysis techniques are improved by use of computers. In conventional structural analysis, the structure is assumed to be built in a second. However, this type of analysis does not always give the reliable and healty solutions. When the results of the conventional analysis was compared to the construction staging analysis, the difference in results can vary from 10% to 50%. In construction staging analysis, the time dependent material strength variations and geometric variations are included in investigation. In this study, a cable supported pedestrian bridge, a standard prestressed precast I-girder highway bridge support condition and multi story building analysis was performed by construction staging to determine the differences from conventional analysis.

Incremental transformation of spatial intelligence from smart systems to sensorial infrastructures
Erişen, Serdar (Informa UK Limited, 2020-01-01)
In addition to the scalability of new computation technologies considering their potentials and limitations, recent applications of embedded computation ensure its possible uses in the scope of urban computing and policymaking strategies. This study examines methods of crowdsourcing with the aim of incremental transformation of the built environment through the experimental exploration of the traditional infrastructure of the Spice Bazaar in Istanbul using a bottom-up research approach. Thus, this study can...
A new structural modification method with additional degrees of freedom for dynamic analysis of large systems
Şayin, Burcu; Ciğeroğlu, Ender (2013-02-14)
Structural modification techniques are widely used to predict the dynamic characteristics of modified systems by using the information of the original and modifying systems. Nowadays, due to the increased computational power, large finite element models are regularly used. During design optimization, modifications are done on the original structure in order to meet the design requirements which require reevaluation of the dynamic response of the structure. This is a time consuming process since for each mod...
Parameter optimization on compressive strength of steel fiber reinforced high strength concrete
Ayan, E.; Saatcioglu, Oe.; Turanlı, Lutfullah (Elsevier BV, 2011-06-01)
This paper illustrates parameter optimization of compressive strength of steel fiber reinforced high strength concrete (SFRHSC) by statistical design and analysis of experiments. Among several factors affecting the compressive strength, five parameters that maximize all of the responses have been chosen as the most important ones as age of testing, binder type, binder amount, curing type and steel fiber volume fraction. Taguchi analysis techniques have been used to evaluate L-27 (3(13)) Taguchi's orthogonal...
A Practical optimum design of steel structures with scatter search method and SAP2000
Korkut, Ahmet Esat; Hasançebi, Oğuzhan; Department of Civil Engineering (2013)
In the literature, a large number of metaheuristic search techniques have been proposed up to present time and some of those have been used in structural optimization. Scatter search is one of those techniques which has proved to be effective when solving combinatorial and nonlinear optimization problems such as scheduling, routing, financial product design and other problem areas. Scatter search is an evolutionary method that uses strategies based on a composite decision rules and search diversification an...
A Fuzzy structural equation model to analyze relationships between determinants of safety performance in construction sites: development of a safety performance index assessment tool
Özdemir, Mustafa; Birgönül, Mustafa Talat; Department of Civil Engineering (2015)
The principal aim of this study is to examine the relationships between determinants of safety performance in construction sites. In this study, 168 observable variables and 16 latent dimensions affecting safety performance of construction sites were collected together from detailed literature review, expert opinions and face-to-face interviews with 15 construction safety professionals. Relationships between observed variables and latent dimensions of safety performance of construction sites were studied an...
