In this paper, a systematic design procedure is described for manifold type multiplexers formed by the classical circular dual mode waveguide filters. The design procedure starts with cascade synthesis of lumped quadruplet version of the filters with inverter couplings. Then the LC resonators are converted into SC transmission line (SCTL) resonators. The whole circuit is then impedance scaled by inverters at ports for realization of resonators as waveguides with desired cross-sectional dimensions thus forming a quadruplet with four waveguide resonators coupled by inverters. The resonator pairs on source and load side are treated as dual modes of single waveguides reducing the four waveguides into two. Then the in-line inverters are converted into constant reactances for realization as irises. This stage causes electrical lengths of the resonating dual modes to differ. They are equated by introducing proper tuning reactances to complete design of the circuit model of the filter. Several X-band and Ku band manifold type multiplexers are designed and optimized by using the circuit models of the filters. Then field models of the filters and multiplexers are formed on EM simulators and fine tuned for implementation.

Waveguide filters with ridged and unequal width resonators
Yıldırım, Nevzat; Hizal, A (2005-06-17)
Analytical expressions are developed for characterization of ridged / finned waveguides for use in the design of direct coupled waveguide filters with ridged and / or unequal width resonators. The analytical expressions are used to control the harmonic passbands and higher order modes. A survey is made for comparison of responses of waveguide filters using unequal width resonators and unequal ridge resonators. it is found that ridged resonators are more effective in suppressing the spurious passbands in the...
Design of Microstrip Quadruplet Filters on Filpro
Oruc, Sacid; Yıldırım, Nevzat (2018-11-02)
In this paper, a simple dimensional design procedure is developed for microstrip/stripline quadruplet filters by starting with direct BP synthesis of a lumped quadruplet with inverter couplings, K14, K12, K23 and K34. K14 is the cross-coupling inverter which creates a symmetric pair of finite transmission zeros (FTZ's) if the sign of K14 is opposite of the other inverters while a complex TZ is created if K14 has the same sign as the other inverters leading to linear phase (flat delay) responses. The LC reso...
On Miniaturization and Performance Improvement of Planar Wideband Bandpass Filters Without Coupled Lines
Alicioglu, Bulent; Yıldırım, Nevzat (2009-10-01)
Two classical approaches are compared in various respects for the design of wideband planar BPF's without parallel coupled lines, namely, BPF's designed by pole placement with contributing Unit Elements (UE) and inverter coupled resonator filters designed from LP prototypes. It is shown that the circuit obtained by direct BP synthesis is a special case of inverter coupled filter with inverters converted into single Unit Elements. It is also shown that if the inverters are converted into odd number of UE's t...
Design of Selective Linear Phase Cross-Coupled Dielectric Resonator Filters
Ozturk, Onur Ozan; Oruc, Sacid; Alicioglu, Bulent; Yıldırım, Nevzat (2018-11-02)
In this paper, a highly selective linear phase filter is designed and implemented in cross-coupled form using dielectric resonators in Ku band to be used as a channel filter in IMUX of a satellite receiver. Extreme delay flatness is required: 1.5 nS delay ripple over 60 % of the passband and 12 nS near the band edges. The initial design is carried out as 10 resonator symmetric cross-coupled filter with all ideal inverter couplings realizing two finite transmission zeros (FTZ) satisfying also the delay flatn...
Implementation and characterization of an absorption filter for on-chip fluorescent imaging
Yıldırım, Ender; Arpali, Serap Altay (2017-04-01)
Here we present fabrication and characterization of an absorption filter with superior roll-on properties and precisely tunable cut-off wavelengths for fluorescent imaging applications in lab-on-a-chip systems. The filters were fabricated by spinning dye doped photopolymer (Orasol Yellow in Norland Optical Adhesive 60) on glass substrates. The fabrication technique allowed us to precisely tune the cut-off wavelength of the filters. We showed that filters with different cut-off in the range of 386 nm-504 nm ...
