Digital audio effects are used by many electric guitar players. These effects help players to find their desired tones and sounds. For the modelling of main nonlinear guitar effects, distortion and overdrive, this paper investigates current methods of static modelling and dynamic nonlinear state space solutions. After discussion of previous models, this paper introduces a new method of distortion modelling with system identification called Enhanced Modelling of Guitar Distortion. Enhanced Modelling of Guitar Distortion algorithm will use adaptive network based system identification method ANFIS (Adaptive-Network-Based Fuzzy Inference System). ANFIS is used as a system identification tool in Enhanced Modelling of Guitar Distortion algorithm. This algorithm takes the guitar output signal and pre-amplifies the input with 12AX7 vacuum tube amplifier simulation model to obtain clean channel. ANFIS System Identification block is trained using desired distortion effect input output pair. This training and learning results into a ANFIS structure that can be used for processing future inputs. Using clean channel output as an input to the ANFIS structure, lead channel output is obtained. Real-time implementations of distortion and overdrive will be done using C/C++/C# software languages. Using different distortion effect input output pair, different models of distortion effects can be obtained.

Digital modelling of guitar audio effects /
Zeki, Engin; Çiloğlu, Tolga; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2015)
Digital audio effects are used by many electric guitar players. These effects help players to find their desired tones and sounds. Digital audio workstations (DAW) and Virtual studio technologies (VST) advance the development of guitar audio effects softwares. The aim of this thesis is to implement main linear guitar effects (delay, reverb, wah-wah, flanger) real-time and enhance the main nonlinear guitar effects (distortion, overdrive) using system identification methods. After the verification of the effe...
Panoramic recording and reproduction of multichannel audio using a circular microphone array
Hacıhabiboğlu, Hüseyin (2009-10-18)
Multichannel audio reproduction generally suffers from one or both of the following problems: i) the recorded audio has to be artificially manipulated to provide the necessary spatial cues, which reduces the consistency of the reproduced sound field with the actual one, and ii) reproduction is not panoramic, which degrades realism when the listener is not seated in a desired ideal position facing the center channel. A recording method using a circularly symmetric array of differential microphones, and a rep...
Stereophonic rendering of source distance using DWM FDN artificial reverberators
Mate Cid, Saul; Hacıhabiboğlu, Hüseyin; Cvetkovic, Zoran (2010-05-22)
Artificial reverberators are used in audio recording and production to enhance the perception of spaciousness. It is well known that reverberation is a key factor in the perception of the distance of a sound source. The ratio of direct and reverberant energies is one of the most important distance cues. A stereophonic artificial reverberator is proposed that allows panning the perceived distance of a sound source. The proposed reverberator is based on feedback delay network (FDN) reverberators and uses a pe...
Broadband analogue predistortion using a distortion generator based on two-stage RF mixer topology
Nesimoglu, Tayfun (2018-01-01)
An analogue predistorter using a distortion generator based on a two-stage radio frequency mixer topology is presented. The proposed distortion generator achieves fundamental signal cancellation without using a signal cancellation loop or a resonant circuit, thus it generates an error signal that predominantly consists of unwanted intermodulation distortion (IMD). Measurements are performed using multi-tones, WLAN- and Terrestrial Trunked Radio (TETRA)-modulated signals. Distortion generator provides high l...
Higher Order Rotor Slot Harmonics for Rotor Speed & Position Estimation
Keysan, Ozan; Ertan, Hulusi Bülent (2010-05-21)
Air-gap flux of all electrical machines contains harmonics. Some of these harmonics stem from rotor slotting of the machine. These harmonics can be utilized for control or diagnostic purposes. In the literature, rotor slot harmonics are mostly utilized for condition monitoring. There is also some research utilizing them for rotor speed estimation. However, it is observed that in the existing work spectral analysis techniques are employed which require long samples of data and in this from they are not suita...
