This study aims to develop valid and reliable scale in order to measure preservice teachers' beliefs towards using origami in mathematics education. Origami in Mathematics Education Belief Scale which consists of 27 items with 6 point Likert type was administered to 143 preservice elementary mathematics teachers and obtained data was analyzed with exploratory factor analysis. According to analysis results, one item was deleted and some items were revised. After these revisions, the scale consists of 26 items under two dimensions. First dimension is benefits of origami in mathematics education consisting of 19 items and second dimension is limitations of using origami in mathematics education consisting of 7 items. This last version of the scale was administered to 299 preservice elementary mathematics teachers and obtained data was analyzed via confirmatory factor analysis. According to confirmatory factor analysis, RMSEA was calculated as 0.091, CFI and GFI values were calculated as 0.90.

Investigating beliefs and perceived self-efficacy beliefs of prospective elementary mathematics teachers towards using origami in mathematics education
Arslan, Okan; Işıksal Bostan, Mine; Department of Elementary Science and Mathematics Education (2012)
The purpose of this study is developing valid and reliable scales in order to measure beliefs and perceived self-efficacy beliefs towards using origami in mathematics education and then, investigating beliefs and perceived self-efficacy beliefs of Turkish prospective elementary mathematics teachers in using origami in mathematics education. Furthermore, gender differences in prospective teachers' beliefs and perceived self-efficacy beliefs in using origami in mathematics education were investigated. Data fo...
THE DEVELOPMENT OF ATTITUDES AND BELIEFS QUESTIONNAIRE TOWARDS USING HISTORY OF MATHEMATICS IN MATHEMATICS EDUCATION
Alpaslan, Mustafa; Işıksal Bostan, Mine; Haser, Çiğdem (2011-02-13)
This study intends developing a valid and reliable instrument in order to determine pre-service mathematics teachers' attitudes and beliefs towards using history of mathematics in school mathematics courses. The data were collected at the beginning of the fall semester of 2010-2011 academic year from 237 teacher candidates in Turkey via Attitudes and Beliefs towards the Use of History of Mathematics in Mathematics Education (ABHME) Questionnaire developed by the researchers. The reliability coefficient of t...
The effects of a mathematics teaching methods course on pre-service elementary mathematics teachers’ content knowledge for teaching mathematics
Seviş, Şerife; Koç, Yusuf; Department of Elementary Science and Mathematics Education (2008)
The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of a mathematics teaching methods course on pre-service elementary mathematics teachers’ content knowledge for teaching mathematics (CKTM). In order to accomplish this purpose, pre-service mathematics teachers’ understanding of basic concepts and procedures in school mathematics, use of mathematical definitions, presentation of mathematical content to students, identification of common errors, misconceptions and solution strategies and evaluation of unusua...
Exploring secondary mathematics teachers’ conceptions of mathematical literacy
Genç, Murat; Erbaş, Ayhan Kürşat; Department of Secondary Science and Mathematics Education (2017)
The purpose of this research study was to investigate secondary mathematics teachers’ conceptions of mathematical literacy. In doing so, the following three crucial interrelated issues were addressed: (i) teachers’ conceptions of what the notion of mathematical literacy means, (ii) teachers’ conceptions of how the development of mathematical literacy could be facilitated, and (iii) teachers’ conceptions of what a mathematics curriculum emphasizing mathematical literacy should look like. The data gathered fo...
The Relationship Among Mathematics Teaching Efficacy, Math Anxiety, and Mathematical Self-Concept: The Case of Turkish Pre-Service Elementary Teachers
Işıksal Bostan, Mine (Philippines Journals Online (PhilJOL), 2010-11-01)
The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship among pre-service teachers' mathematics teaching efficacy belief, math anxiety, and mathematical self-concept scores. The analysis was based on 276 elementary pre-service teachers enrolled in teacher education programs in Turkey. The Mathematics Teaching Efficacy Belief Instrument, the Abbreviated Mathematics Anxiety Scale, and the Experience with Mathematics Questionnaire were used as the measuring instruments. Structural equation modeling was u...
