In this study, an automatic and rule based approach which extracts bridges over water in satellite images is developed. To find the bridges in the image, possible water regions are first found using thresholding and clustering methods. Candidate bridge regions are then extracted by applying morphological operations to the water mask. Also the algorithm proposes an optional verification step that uses geometric constraints and orientation information to increase precision values. The proposed algorithm is tested on different satellite images and the quantitative and visual results that were obtained showed that the algorithm is effective on extracting bridges of different sizes. © 2012 IEEE.

Road extraction from high resolution satellite images using adaptive boosting with multi-resolution analysis
Çınar, Umut; Çetin, Yasemin; Department of Information Systems (2012)
Road extraction from satellite or aerial imagery is a popular topic in remote sensing, and there are many road extraction algorithms suggested by various researches. However, the need of reliable remotely sensed road information still persists as there is no sufficiently robust road extraction algorithm yet. In this study, we explore the road extraction problem taking advantage of the multi-resolution analysis and adaptive boosting based classifiers. That is, we propose a new road extraction algorithm explo...
Lineament analysis from satellite images, north-west of Ankara
Sarp, Gülcan; Toprak, Vedat; Department of Geodetic and Geographical Information Technologies (2005)
The purposes of this study are to extract lineaments from satellite images in order to contribute to the understanding of the faults. Landsat image is used for the analysis which is processed for both automated and manual extraction. During manual extraction four methods (filtering, PCA, band rationing and color composites) are used. Comparison of the two output maps indicated that manual extraction produced better results. Manually extracted lineament map is tested with the fault map of the area compiled f...
Göktürk-2 Uydusu için Arazi Sınıflandırması
GÜRCAN, İlker; TEKE, mustafa; Leloğlu, Uğur Murat (2016-05-19)
In this study, land-use/land-cover method for Gokturk-2 satellite was developed. Moreover, the developed method can be adapted to any satellite. The aim is to classify pixels in images captured by Gokturk-2 into four basic categories (soil, green areas, water bodies, and others), and to form a persistent mathematical model for this purpose. "Partial Least Squares for Discriminant Analysis (PLS-DA)" method is employed. This method forms a new sample space in such a way that it maximizes the covariance betwee...
Development of an applied element based tool for prediction of collapse behavior of concrete dam monoliths
Hassan Zada , Hamidullah; Arıcı, Yalın; Department of Civil Engineering (2020-9-24)
In this study, conducted with the support of TUBITAK under the grant 116M524, a software framework with a web-based graphical user interface is developed for the investigation of the seismic behavior of concrete gravity dams. Using a modified discrete element technique, one of the primary goals of the developed tool is to simulate extensive cracking on concrete dam monoliths followed by sliding, rocking and loss of stability. The graphical user interface for using this engine is prepared in HTML, Java...
Numerical modeling of wave diffraction in one-dimensional shoreline change model
Baykal, Cüneyt; Ergin, Ayşen; Department of Civil Engineering (2006)
In this study, available coastal models are briefly discussed and under wind waves and a numerical shoreline change model for longshore sediment transport based on “one-line” theory is developed. In numerical model, wave diffraction phenomenon in one-dimensional modeling is extensively discussed and to represent the irregular wave diffraction in the sheltered zones of coastal structures a simpler approach based on the methodology introduced by Kamphuis (2000) is proposed. Furthermore, the numerical model re...
