In service composition, service discovery and combining suitable services through determination of interoperability among different services are important operations. Utilizing semantics improves the quality and facilitates automation of these operations. There are several previous approaches for semantic service discovery and service matching. In this work we exploit and extend these semantic approaches in order to make web service composition process more facilitated, less error prone and more automated. This work includes a service discovery and service interoperability checking technique which extends the previous semantic matching approaches. In addition to this, as a guidance system for the user, a new semantic domain model is proposed that captures semantic relations between concepts in various ontologies.

Achieving Semantic Interoperability in Emergency Management Domain
Gencturk, Mert; Evci, Enver; Guney, Arda; Kabak, Yildiray; Erturkmen, Gokce B. Laleci (2017-05-12)
This paper describes how semantic interoperability can be achieved in emergency management domain where different organizations in different domains should communicate through a number of distinct standards to manage crises and disasters effectively. To achieve this goal, a common ontology is defined as lingua franca and standard content models are mapped one by one to the ontology. Then, information represented in one standard is converted to another according to the mappings and exchanged between parties.
Enhancing content management systems with semantic capabilities
Gönül, Suat; Çiçekli Kesim, Nihan; Doğaç, Asuman; Department of Computer Engineering (2012)
Content Management Systems (CMS) generally store data in a way that the content is distributed among several relational database tables or stored in files as a whole without any distinctive characteristics. These storage mechanisms cannot provide the management of semantic information about the data. They lack semantic retrieval, search and browsing of the stored content. To enhance non-semantic CMSes with advanced semantic features, the semantics within the CMS itself and additional semantic information re...
Using semantic information for distributed web service discovery
Cantürk, Deniz; Karagöz, Pınar (2011-01-01)
With the increase in number and size of service registries, web service discovery becomes a challenging activity. There is also tremendous increase in the number of web services that are not registered to any of the business registries. Under these conditions, finding an appropriate web service may lead to problems in terms of performance, efficiency, end-to-end security and quality of the discovered services. Use of semantic information has been studied in web service discovery for improving the accuracy o...
A workflow-based web service composition system
Karakoc, E.; Kardas, K.; Karagöz, Pınar (2006-12-22)
In this work, we present a web service composition system that provides an environment for specifying the now model of the composite service and the user's constraints on the composite service. We adopt our previous work on workflow modeling and scheduling under resource allocation constraints for web service composition and extend it with service discovery functionalities. In modeling the composite service, the system guides the user for selecting the relevant service types. In both guiding functionality a...
