In this paper, we present a conceptual data model for multimedia database applications based on ExIFO(2) model. The ExIFO(2) data model is chosen as the conceptual model since it handles both complex objects along with their uncertain and imprecise properties. We enhanced this conceptual model in order to meet the multimedia data requirements. In addition to uncertain and imprecise information, we present a way of handling relationships among objects of multimedia database applications. Events that might be extracted from video or audio are also considered in this study. Finally, the conceptual model is mapped to a logical model, which the fuzzy object oriented data (FOOD) model is chosen, for storing and manipulating the multimedia objects. This mapping is done in a way that it preserves most of the information represented at the conceptual level.

Architecture specification of service-oriented systems through semantic web technologies
Biçer, Veli; Doğru, Ali Hikmet; Department of Computer Engineering (2007)
This thesis presents a semantic-based modeling approach for describing Service-Oriented Architectures (SOA). Ontologies are utilized as a major representation mechanism for describing various elements available in the architecture. The methodology proposes an architecture specification mechanism to constuct a unified ontology that enables transition from design concerns to the modeling elements. A multi-level modeling is also achieved by employing Model-Driven Engineering (MDE) techniques to describe variou...
View maintenance in object-oriented databases
Alhajj, R; Polat, Faruk (1996-01-01)
In this paper, we present a model that facilitates view maintenance within object-oriented databases. For that purpose, we differentiate between two categories of classes, base classes and brother classes. While the former constitute the actual database, the latter are introduced to hold virtual database, i.e., views derived from base classes. To achieve incremental view update, we introduce a modification list into each base class. A series of algorithms are developed to serve the purpose. Finally it happe...
Linear static analysis of large structural models on pc clusters
Özmen, Semih; Toker, Kurç; Department of Civil Engineering (2009)
This research focuses on implementing and improving a parallel solution framework for the linear static analysis of large structural models on PC clusters. The framework consists of two separate programs where the first one is responsible from preparing data for the parallel solution that involves partitioning, workload balancing, and equation numbering. The second program is a fully parallel nite element program that utilizes substructure based solution approach with direct solvers. The first step of data...
Transformation of conceptual models to executable High Level Architecture federation models
Özhan, Gürkan; Oğuztüzün, Mehmet Halit S. (Springer, 2015-01-01)
In this chapter, we present a formal, declarative, and visual model transformation methodology to map a domain conceptual model (CM) to a distributed simulation architecture model (DSAM). The approach adheres to the principles of model-driven engineering (MDE). A two-phased automatic transformation strategy is delineated to translate a field artillery conceptual model (ACM) into a high-level architecture (HLA) federation architecture model (FAM). The produced model is then compiled by the code generator to ...
Fuzzy data representation and querying in XML database
Ustunkaya, Ekin; Yazıcı, Adnan; George, Roy (2007-02-01)
Real-world information including subjective opinions and judgments need imprecise data to be modeled for representation and querying in databases. The Extensible Markup Language (XML) has become a de-facto standard for data modeling and exchange in recent years. Efforts on modeling imprecision and representing such data in XML have not been fully developed. In this paper, an XML based fuzzy data representation and querying system is presented. Complex and imprecise data are represented using a fuzzy extensi...
