Rhodium(0) nanoparticles stabilized by tert-butylammonium octanoate were prepared reproducibly from the reduction of rhodium(II) octanoate with tert-butylamine-borane in toluene at room temperature and characterized by ICP-OES, TEM, HRTEM, STEM, EDX, XRD, XPS, FTIR, UV-vis, B-11, C-13 and H-1 NMR spectroscopy and elemental analysis. These new rhodium(0) nanoparticles show unprecedented catalytic activity, lifetime and reusability as a heterogeneous catalyst in room temperature dehydrogenation of ammonia-borane, which is under significant investigation as a potential hydrogen storage material.

Investigation of thermal characteristics of naphthoxazines and polynaphthoxazines via pyrolysis mass spectrometry
Koyuncu, Zeynep; Hacaloğlu, Jale; Department of Chemistry (2009)
In this study, polymerization mechanisms of aromatic (C6H5 or C6F5) and alkyl (CH3, C2H5, C3H7, C6H13, C12H25 or C18H37) amine based naphthoxazine monomers (15-Na, 15Na-C1, 15Na-C2, 15Na-C3, 15Na-C6, 15Na-C12 and 15Na-C18) and thermal degradation mechanisms of polynaphthoxazines synthesized by curing the naphthoxazine monomers (P-15-Na, P-15NaF, P-15Na-C1, P-15Na-C2, P-15Na-C3, P-15Na-C6, P-15Na-C12 and P-15Na-C18) were studied by direct pyrolysis mass spectrometry. During the curing process, the evolutions...
Optical and Vibrational Properties of [Pt@Pb-12](2-), [Ni@Pb-12](2-), and [Ni@Pb-10](2-) Zintl Ion Clusters
Çetin, Asude; Esentürk, Okan; Nalbant Esentürk, Emren (Wiley, 2017-05-10)
The optical and vibrational properties of Pt- and Ni-centered Pb-Zintl-ion clusters have been investigated by UV/Vis and FTIR spectroscopy. Computational studies have been performed to better interpret the experimental data, due to a lack of any FTIR and UV/Vis spectroscopic studies on these clusters or similar ones in the literature. UV/Vis spectroscopic analyses show an asymmetric broad absorption band, with a maximum at 265 nm for both Pt- and Ni-centered Pb clusters. FTIR spectroscopic analysis demonstr...
Rhodium(0) nanoparticles supported on hydroxyapatite: preparation, characterization and catalytic use in hydrogen generation from hydrolysis of hydrazine borane and ammonia borane
Çelik, Derya; Özkar, Saim; Department of Chemistry (2012)
This dissertation presents the preparation and characterization of rhodium(0) nanoparticles supported on hydroxyapatite, and investigation of their catalytic activity in hydrogen generation from the hydrolysis of hydrazine-borane and ammonia-borane. Rh+3 ions were impregnated on hydroxyapatite by ion-exchange; then rhodium(0) nanoparticles supported on hydroxyapatite were formed in-situ during the hydrolysis of hydrazine-borane at room temperature. The rhodium(0) nanoparticles supported on hydroxyapatite we...
A new and efficient chemoenzymatic route to both enantiomers of alpha '-acetoxy-alpha-methyl and gamma-hydroxy-alpha-methyl cyclic enones
Demir, Ayhan Sıtkı; Findik, H; Kose, E (Elsevier BV, 2004-03-08)
A chemoenzymatic synthesis of both enantiomers of the pharmacologically interesting alpha'-acetoxy-alpha-methyl and gamma-hydroxy-alpha-methyl cyclic enones starting from alpha-methyl-beta-methoxy cyclic enones is reported. Manganese(Ill) acetate-mediated acetoxylation followed by the enzyme-mediated hydrolysis of alpha'-acetoxy enone provides acetoxy enones 1a and 2a and hydroxy enones 1b and 2b with high enantiomeric excesses in good yields. The reduction of the acetoxy and hydroxy enones furnished both e...
A new and efficient chemoenzymatic route to both enantiomers of alpha '-acetoxy and alpha '-hydroxy-alpha-methoxy cyclic enones
Demir, Ayhan Sıtkı; Caliskan, Z; Aydin, AE; Bicer, I (Elsevier BV, 2006-03-06)
A chemoenzymatic synthesis of both enantiomers of the pharmacologically interesting alpha'-acetoxy and alpha'-hydroxy-alpha-methoxy cyclic enones starting from alpha-hydroxy cyclic enones is described. Protection of 1,2-diketones, manganese(III) acetate-mediated acetoxylation followed by enzyme-mediated hydrolysis of alpha'-acetoxy enones gives acetoxy enones 3a-d and hydroxy enones 4a-d with high enantiomeric excesses (up to 99%) and good yields. The transesterification of rac-4b in the presence of DMAP af...
