Distribution coefficients of cesium on natural and cation-enriched (Na(+), K(+), NH(4)(+) and Ca(+2)) forms of clinoptilolite were measured by batch, radioactive tracer technique. The measurements were carried out for an initial cesium concentration range of 10(-6)-10(-1) mol/dm(3) and at temperatures of 25, 40, 60 and 80 degreesC. Experimental isotherms evaluated from distribution coefficients were fit to Langmuir, Freundlich and Dubinin-Radushkevich (D-R)models. Of the models tested, D-R model was found to represent the isotherms better in a wider range of concentrations than either Langmuir or Freundlich model. Breakthrough behavior of cesium on natural and cation-enriched forms of clinoptilolite for a particular set of conditions were also determined in a small size column. Column parameters were evaluated using mass transfer zone concept.

Synthesis of boron and zirconium co-doped titanium dioxide nanopowders by the sol-gel technique /
Ağartan, Lütfi; Öztürk, Abdullah; Park, Jongee; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2014)
Effects of water/Ti precursor molar ratio (R ratio) and calcination regime on the photocatalytic properties of undoped, boron (B) doped, zirconium (Zr) doped, and B and Zr co-doped TiO2 powders synthesized by sol-gel process were researched. Undoped powders were synthesized for R ratio of 1, 3, 5, 10, 30, and 50 while doped and co-doped powders were synthesized for R ratio of 50. Undoped powders were calcined at 300, 400, and 500oC for 1, 2, and 3 h while doped and co-doped powders were calcined at 300 and ...
Characterization of polylactide/poly(ethylene glycol) blends via direct pyrolysis mass spectrometry
Ozdemir, Esra; Tincer, Teoman; Hacaloğlu, Jale (2016-11-01)
In this study, melt blended poly(lactic acid) and poly(ethylene glycol), (PLA)/PEG samples involving 10, 15 and 20 wt% PEG were prepared and characterized by direct pyrolysis mass spectrometry technique in addition to classical techniques such differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetric analyses and mechanical tests. The incorporation of PEG resulted in consistent and significant decrease in the tensile strength and modulus, and reduction in endothermic melting peak of PLA due to the plasticizing e...
Identification of electron acceptor properties of Penicillium camemberti used for effective treatment of chlorinated organic compounds
Taseli, BK; Gökçay, Celal Ferdi (2005-01-01)
Two methods described in this paper use respirometric monitoring of the accumulated oxygen uptake rate, following the addition of bleachery effluents to a reactor containing Penicillium camemberti and detection of inorganic chloride removal by a chloride electrode for electron acceptor identification. In the case of respirometric studies, adsorbable organic halogens (AOX) removal was retarded at high acetate concentrations and the metabolism shifted towards aerobic respiration. Contrary to this, aerobic res...
Synthesis and characterization of conducting copolymers of menthyl ester of 3-thiophene acetic acid with pyrrole
Kiralp, S; Alkan, S; Toppare, Levent Kamil; Cianga, I; Yagci, Y (2003-01-01)
A new thiophene derivative containing menthyl group (MM) was synthesized and polymerized via chemical and electrochemical (constant current) methods. Polymers obtained and MM itself were used to synthesize copolymers with pyrrole under conditions of constant potential electrolyses. Cyclic voltammetry (CV), thermal analysis (DSC, TGA) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analyses were performed for the characterization of samples.
Synthesis and Characterization of [Ir(1,5-Cyclooctadiene)(mu-H)](4): A Tetrametallic Ir4H4-Core, Coordinatively Unsaturated Cluster
Yih, Kuang-Hway; Hamdemir, Isil K.; Mondloch, Joseph E.; Bayram, Ercan; Özkar, Saim; Vasic, Relja; Frenkel, Anatoly I.; Anderson, Oren P.; Finke, Richard G. (2012-03-05)
Reported herein is the synthesis of the previously unknown [Ir(1,5-COD)(mu-H)](4) (where 1,5-COD = 1,5-cyclooctadiene), from commercially available [Ir(1,5-COD)Cl](2) and LiBEt3H in the presence of excess 1,5-COD in 78% initial, and 55% recrystallized, yield plus its unequivocal characterization via single-crystal X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray absorption fine structure (XAFS) spectroscopy, electrospray/atmospheric pressure chemical ionization mass spectrometry (ESI-MS), and UV-vis, IR, and nuclear magnetic...
