In the theory of Darlington type filter synthesis extraction of transmission zero sections one by one, leading to a cascade of Darlington-A, B, C, D and Brune sections bears serious limitations like numerical accuracy problems, negative and/or extreme element values or impractical topologies or Darlington-C-D and Brune sections. In this paper all such problems are evaded/eased by extracting the transmission zeros as groups to form circuit sections which are readily convertible to multiple coupled resonator forms. In this approach, transmission zeros at s=0 and s=infinity are extracted as groups to form doublets of resonators, the jomega-axis and sigma-axis transmission zeros are extracted as groups to form triplets of resonators, pairs of jomega-axis and sigma-axis transmission zeros and complex transmission zeros are extracted as groups to form quadruplets of resonators, etc. The classical element extraction procedure in transformed frequency domain is revised to cover extraction of complex transmission zeros as forth order section by zero shifting from both s=0 and s=infinity leading to realisation as a quadruplet of resonators. Thus, the theory of cascade synthesis is generalised to include cascaded doublets, triplets, quadruplets and other N-tuplets of resonators as building blocks. It is found out that the limitations due to usual numerical accuracy problems are also reduced a lot and the resulting element value spreads can be controlled to avoid extreme values.

Efficient Three-Layer Iterative Solutions of Electromagnetic Problems Using the Multilevel Fast Multipole Algorithm
Onol, Can; Ucuncu, Arif; Ergül, Özgür Salih (2017-05-19)
We present a three-layer iterative algorithm for fast and efficient solutions of electromagnetic problems formulated with surface integral equations. The strategy is based on nested iterative solutions employing the multilevel fast multipole algorithm and its approximate forms. We show that the three-layer mechanism significantly reduces solution times, while it requires no additional memory as opposed to algebraic preconditioners. Numerical examples involving three-dimensional scattering problems are prese...
Multi-objective combinatorial optimization using evolutionary algorithms
Özsayın, Burcu; Köksalan, Murat; Department of Industrial Engineering (2009)
Due to the complexity of multi-objective combinatorial optimization problems (MOCO), metaheuristics like multi-objective evolutionary algorithms (MOEA) are gaining importance to obtain a well-converged and well-dispersed Pareto-optimal frontier approximation. In this study, of the well-known MOCO problems, single-dimensional multi-objective knapsack problem and multi-objective assignment problem are taken into consideration. We develop a steady-state and elitist MOEA in order to approximate the Pareto-optim...
Implementation of different algorithms in linear mixed models: case studies with TIMSS
Koca, Burcu; Gökalp Yavuz, Fulya; Department of Statistics (2021-9-06)
Mixed models are frequently used in longitudinal data types with time repetition over the same subject and clustered data types formed by observations gathered around certain groups. The modeling technique which models the dependency structure between repetitions and observations in the same cluster is required to use algorithms for parameter estimations. The same model can be solved with various algorithms arising from setup, inference and approach differences. In this study, several algorithms used for LM...
Design of Microstrip Quadruplet Filters on Filpro
Oruc, Sacid; Yıldırım, Nevzat (2018-11-02)
In this paper, a simple dimensional design procedure is developed for microstrip/stripline quadruplet filters by starting with direct BP synthesis of a lumped quadruplet with inverter couplings, K14, K12, K23 and K34. K14 is the cross-coupling inverter which creates a symmetric pair of finite transmission zeros (FTZ's) if the sign of K14 is opposite of the other inverters while a complex TZ is created if K14 has the same sign as the other inverters leading to linear phase (flat delay) responses. The LC reso...
Algorithm Overview and Design for Mixed Effects Models
Koca, Burcu; Gökalp Yavuz, Fulya (2021-06-06)
Linear Mixed Model (LMM) is an extended regression method that is used for longitudinal data which has repeated measures within the individual. It is natural to expect high correlation between these repeats over a period of time for the same individual. Since classical approaches may fail to cover these correlations, LMM handles this significant concern by introducing random effect terms in the model. Besides its flexible structure in terms of modeling, LMM has several application areas such as clinical tri...
