Detail-Preserving Mesh Unfolding for Nonrigid Shape Retrieval
Sahillioğlu, Yusuf (2016-06-01)
We present a shape deformation algorithm that unfolds any given 3D shape into a canonical pose that is invariant to nonrigid transformations. Unlike classical approaches, such as least-squares multidimensional scaling, we preserve the geometric details of the input shape in the resulting shape, which in turn leads to a content-based nonrigid shape retrieval application with higher accuracy. Our optimization framework, fed with a triangular or a tetrahedral mesh in 3D, tries to move each vertex as far away f...
Slice coherence in a query-based architecture for 3D heterogeneous printing
Yaman, Ulaş; Sacks, Elisha; Hoffmann, Christoph (2016-06-01)
We report on 3D printing of artifacts with a structured, inhomogeneous interior. The interior is decomposed into cells defined by a 3D Voronoi diagram and their sites. When printing such objects, most slices the printer deposits are topologically the same and change only locally in the interior. The slicing algorithm capitalizes on this coherence and minimizes print head moves that do not deposit material. This approach has been implemented on a client/server architecture that computes the slices on the geo...

Wash-Coat Development for Lean-Burn Engine-Exhaust Aftertreatment: Incorporation of Binder to Pd Supported on Sulfated Zirconia
Majumdar, Sreshtha Sinha; Çelik, Gökhan; Ozkan, Umit S. (null; 2015-07-19)
As the environmental regulations are getting more stringent, it is of great importance to develop a catalytic aftertreatment system for natural gas-fired lean-burn engines to reduce the emissions of nitrogen oxides (NOx), unburned hydrocarbons (CH4, C2H6, and C3H8) and carbon monoxide efficiently. We have developed a dual-catalyst aftertreatment system which utilizes the hydrocarbons present in the exhaust streams of lean-burn engines for reducing NOxemissions. The dual-catalyst aftertreatment system is a p...
Wetland spectral unmixing using multispectral satellite images
Ozer, Erdem; Leloğlu, Uğur Murat (2022-07-01)
Wetlands are of great importance to the diversity of biota and ecology, thereby to humans. Monitoring such valuable areas is essential for sustainable development. When the sizes, geographic distribution, and total coverage of wetlands across the earth are taken into account, remote sensing shines out as the most economically and technically feasible method to realise the monitoring task. Concerning the utilisation of medium resolution satellite images as the input, the pixel-level approach falls short of u...
