Determination of Vegetation Change Using Thematic Mapper Imagery in Afsin-Elbistan Lignite Basin; SE Turkey

2011-10-10
Sarp, Gulcan
In this study Landsat Thematic Mapper (TM) and Landsat Enhanced Thematic Mapper plus (ETM+) data for the years 1989-2000- 2010 was used to detect vegetational change in Afsin Elbistan lignite basin. Study based on application of Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI). The change of vegetation cover is determined by comparing different date NDVI images using differencing method. Differencing NDVI images helped to quickly identify areas where vegetation is increased or decreased. The results suggest that NDVI have revealed significant changes in green vegetation in the study area. Remote sensing techniques and multi temporal satellite data reliably used to monitoring changes of vegetation cover in open pit mine areas. (C) 2011 Published by Elsevier Ltd.

Assessment of temporal variation and sources of PCBs in the sediments of Mediterranean Sea, Mersin Bay, Turkey
Gedik, Kadir; İmamoğlu, İpek (Elsevier BV, 2011-01-01)
Information on temporal distribution of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in the coastal sediments of Mediterranean Sea, Mersin was compiled using data published between 1980 and 2009, and the present study. The first congener specific PCB results from the region yield concentration levels of Sigma(41) PCBs in sediments ranging from 0.61 to 1.04 ng g(-1). Sediment profiles show penta-, hexa- and hepta-chlorobiphenyls, specifically, #149 and 153 as the most abundant congeners in all samples. Comparison of tot...
Evaluation of reservoir quality of the Derdere formation within the sequence stratigraphic framework in Diyarbakır region, SE Turkey
Yetim, Suzan Müge; Altıner, Demir; Department of Geological Engineering (2021-2-04)
An integrated sequence stratigraphic study based on well samples and well log data reveals the signals of eustatic sea level change during the Cenomanian-Turonian time interval in Diyarbakır, southeastern Turkey. The depositional model of the Derdere Formation based on detailed microfacies analysis is proposed as the carbonate ramp model consisting of inner ramp (tidal flat, lagoon and shoal), proximal middle ramp, distal middle ramp and outer ramp depositional settings. In the direction of east to west sev...
Determination of Secchi disc depths in Lake Eymir using remotely sensed data
Yüzügüllü, Onur; Aksoy, Ayşegül (null; 2010-06-05)
In this study Secchi disk depths (SDD) are determined in an eutrophic Eymir Lake in Ankara using the multi-spectral image obtained from the Quickbird satellite. For this purpose, empirical models given in literature and artificial neural networks (ANN) are used. SDDs at 17 sampling points in Eymir Lake are measured via field studies. In the satellite image, pixel values at the sampling points are determined using ERDAS Imagine. Results indicate very low correlations between the SDD values calculated using t...
Monitoring of chemical and isotopic compositions of geothermal waters along the North Anatolian fault zone
Süer, Selin; Güleç, Nilgün Türkan; Department of Geological Engineering (2004)
This study aims to determine the chemical (anion-cation) and isotopic compositions (d18O-dD-3H) of the geothermal waters along the North Anatolian Fault Zone (NAFZ) and highlight any possible seismicity-induced temporal variations during the course of two years (2002-2003) monitoring programme. The geothermal sites are alligned along a 800 km transect of the NAFZ and are, from west to east, Yalova, Efteni, Bolu, Mudurnu, Seben, Kursunlu, Hamamözü, Gözlek and Resadiye. The thermal waters of NAFZ are dominant...
Assessment of trace metal pollution in the coastal sediments of Fethiye-Go spacing diaeresis cek Bay (SW Turkey) and evaluation of pollution sources
Gulsen-Rothmund, Halil Ibrahim; ARSLAN, ŞEBNEM; Kurtulus, Bedri; Tunca, Evren; Avşar, Ulaş; Avsar, Ozgur (2023-01-01)
This research evaluated the trace metal pollution and the pollution sources in the coastal sediments of Fethiye-Go center dot cek Bay by using the spatial distribution maps, correlation and statistical analysis, which were acquired from 69 sampling points. Spatial distribution maps for eleven elements (namely Al, As, Co, Cr, Cu, Fe, Mn, Mo, Ni, Pb, Ti, V, and Zn) revealed that there is an enrichment of the studied elements, especially near Fethiye harbor. Moreover, the contamination evaluation carried out b...
