The effect of double hard-limiters in direct-detection optical asynchronous code division multiple access (CDMA) systems using shortened optical orthogonal codes (OOC) is investigated in this work. The performance improvement in case of shortened OOCs is shown by simulating the detector operation for the single and double hard-limiter cases and the two cases are compared to each other. In addition to previous stated results, it is shown that the double hard-limiters improve the receiver performance not only when the desired user sends bit '0', but also when the user sends the bit '1'. Blocking performance of class of service differentiation in survivable all-optical networks
Turan, Bilgehan; Koçyiğit, Altan; Department of Information Systems (2005)
This thesis evaluates the performance of service differentiation with different class of services namely protection, reservation and the best effort services on the NxN meshed torus and the ring topology, which are established as survivable all-optical WDM networks. Blocking probabilities are measured as performance criteria and the effects of different number of wavelengths, different type of services and different topology size with wavelength selective lightpath allocation schemes are investigated by sim...
Detection of hidden patterns in time series data via multiple-time FOD method
Erkuş, Ekin Can; Purutçuoğlu Gazi, Vilda (2019-06-23)
The periodicity in time series data can be detected by several frequency domains’ methods, especially, by the Fourier transform (FT). FT is a non-parametric method to convert the time domain data into the frequency domain and it is used in many engineering and data science applications. Recently this method which has been used to detect outliers in time series observations where the data may also include some systematic patterns is called “outlier detection via Fourier transform” (FOD). From our previous ...
Low-cost uncooled infrared detectors in CMOS process
Eminoglu, S; Tezcan, DS; Tanrikulu, MY; Akın, Tayfun (Elsevier BV, 2003-12-01)
This paper reports the implementation and comparison of two low-cost uncooled infrared microbolometer detectors that car be implemented using standard n-well CMOS processes. One type is based on a suspended n-well resistor, which is implemented in a 0.8 mum CMOS process and has a pixel size of 80 mum x 80 mum with a fill factor of 13%; and the other type is based on a suspended p(+)-active/n-well diode, which is implemented in a 0.35 mum CMOS process and has a pixel size of 40 mum x 40 mum with a fill facto...
Development of D -type fiber optic sensors for detection of refractive index variation in evanescent wave field /
Güleryüz, Burcu; Durucan, Caner; Aslan, Mustafa M.; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2014)
The purpose of this study is to design, construct, develop and test D-type multimode fiber optic (F/O) sensors based on evanescent wave field sensing. A comprehensive work has been performed both theoretically and experimentally using a geometrical modification approach to improve the sensors response in different manners for detecting the refractive index (RI) variations and bio-molecular interactions in aqueous environment. In this study, the D-type F/O sensors performance was improved utilizing optical w...
Detection of the distribution and parameter estimation for the departing connectivity in biological networks
Odunsi, Omolola Dorcas; Purutçuoğlu Gazi, Vilda; Department of Statistics (2014)
The connectivity density is one of the characteristics features in the topology of the network. This density describes the total number of the in-degree and out-degree of a node in a system. In a network, the in-degree or arriving connectivity represents the number of links coming to a target gene and the out-degree or departing connectivity stands for the number of links departing from the target gene. For biological networks, the density of the in-degree is represented by the exponential distribution and ...
