In this study, we investigate the interactions between coverage and spatial resolution for cluster-based wireless sensor networks (WSN). We present an approximate probabilistic analysis for the mentioned correlation and verify this analysis by simulation. Our analysis includes the k-coverage case.

Tradeoff analysis and optimization of security and spatial resolution for sensor networks
Tomur, Emrah; Erten, Y. M. (2007-03-16)
In this study, we investigate the correlation between security and spatial resolution -a measure of service quality- in cluster-based wireless sensor networks (WSN). We analyze the tradeoff between these two concepts resulting from the limited channel capacity and propose a method to determine the best tradeoff between security and spatial resolution for cases where network capacity is not sufficient to support required levels. We also present some numerical results obtained by application of the proposed m...
An Efficient Fuzzy Fusion-Based Framework for Surveillance Applications in Wireless Multimedia Sensor Networks
Sert, Seyyit Alper; Yazıcı, Adnan; Coşar, Ahmet; Yilmazer, Cengiz (2014-08-08)
This study is focused on a new approach for addressing the trade-off between accuracy and energy-efficiency of Wireless Multimedia Sensor Networks. Although a number of previous studies have focused on various special topics in Wireless Multimedia Sensor Networks in detail, to best of our knowledge, none presents a fuzzy multi-modal data fusion system, which is light-weight and provides a high accuracy ratio. Especially, multi-modal data fusion targeting surveillance applications make it inevitable to work ...
Security and service quality analysis for cluster-based wireless sensor networks
Tomur, Emrah; Erten, Y. Murat (2007-05-25)
In this study, we analyze security and quality of service (QoS) issues in cluster-based wireless sensor networks (WSN). Taking spatial resolution as the main QoS metric and limiting the security definition to data integrity and authentication, we present a control strategy to maintain desired QoS and security levels during the entire operation of a cluster-based sensor network. Besides, our proposed strategy considers some other WSN QoS attributes such as coverage, packet collision and system lifetime. It p...
A Survey on Multipath Routing Protocols for QoS Assurances in Real-Time Wireless Multimedia Sensor Networks
Hasan, Mohammed Zaki; Al-Rizzo, Hussain; Al-Turjman, Fadi (2017-01-01)
The vision of wireless multimedia sensor networks (WMSNs) is to provide real-time multimedia applications using wireless sensors deployed for long-term usage. Quality of service assurances for both best effort data and real-time multimedia applications introduced new challenges in prioritizing multipath routing protocols in WMSNs. Multipath routing approaches with multiple constraints have received considerable research interest. In this paper, a comprehensive survey of both best effort data and real-time m...
On event signal reconstruction in wireless sensor networks
Atakan, Baris; Akan, Oezguer B. (2007-05-18)
In Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN), the effective detection and reconstruction of the event signal is mainly based on the regulation of sampling and communication parameters used by the sensor nodes. The aim of this paper is to understand the effect of these parameters on the reconstruction performance of event signal in WSN. Theoretical analysis and results show that with proper selection of sampling and communication parameters, the event signal can be satisfactorily reconstructed at the sink. Furthermore,...
