Ground-state properties of quasi-one-dimensional electron systems within dynamic local-field correction: Quantum Singwi-Tosi-Land-Sjolander theory

Dynamic local-field correction (LFC) brings a richer picture about the description of a many-body system than the standard mean-held theories. Here we investigate the ground-state properties of a quasi-one-dimensional electronic system using the quantum version of the Singwi-Tosi-Land-Sjolander (STLS) theory and present a critical account of its performance. The results are markedly different than those theories based on static LFC and the random-phase approximation; an example is the static structure factor, which develops a significant peak at low densities, signaling a developing ordered phase. An indication of growing instability at low densities is seen on G(q, 0), the static behavior of the dynamic LFC, which has an oscillatory character with a magnitude exceeding unity, peaking exactly at 4k(F). The pair-correlation function comes out as positive for the densities considered in this work. The correlation energy and the compressibility curves are seen to be quite close to the static STLS results. A flaw of the theory is the significantly negative values of thr dynamic structure factor around the plasmon frequencies, also the lifetime of the plasmons turns out to be negative away from the single-pair continuum. In summary, the major shortcomings of the dynamic STLS scheme are the violation of the compressibility sum rule (as in the static STLS case) and the misrepresentation of the plasmons in the dynamic structure factor. GTD solution with higher order terms to the diffraction by an edge: Towards a uniform solution
Buyukdura, OM (Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), 1996-02-01)
A UTD solution for an edge of a perfectly conducting wedge is presented which includes terms of order higher than the ordinary UTD. The problem is studied for three special cases: (i) plane and (ii) spherical wave incidence on a straight wedge with planar surfaces, and (iii) cylindrical wave incidence on a wedge with surfaces curved in the direction normal to the edge. This solution not only compensates the jump discontinuities in the GO field but also the discontinuities in the derivative. The solution fou...
Integration Through Mobility
Şenyapılı, Tansı (Middle East Technical University, Faculty of Architecture, 1977)
The aim of this article is to determine the basic principles of a theory to cover the most prominent problem witnessed in the physical dimension of the urbanization process, namely "squatter housing" and "marginal sector" of underdeveloped countries which lives in this type of housing. First, we shall review the theoretical background for viewing urbanization in developing countries and then take a new stance for examining the interrelationships in economic and physical space in the formation of squ...
Local institutional capacity and decentralization of power
Erkan, Gökhan Hüseyin; Şengül, Hüseyin Tarık; Department of Urban Policy Planning and Local Governments (2006)
The aim of this thesis is to examine the relationship between the success of the decentralization schemes and the local capacity by concentrating on the case of Metropolitan Municipality of Diyarbakır. The Local Government Reform in Turkey was built on the argument that local authorities, compared to the central government, are better in providing services in a more efficient and more participatory manner. This thesis argues that such an argument is valid only in an environment where there is a strong local...
Proof of the basic theorem on concept lattices in Isabelle/HOL
Sertkaya, Barış; Oğuztüzün, Mehmet Halit S.; Tiefenbach, Andreas; Department of Computer Engineering (2003)
Formel Concept Analysis is an emerging field of applied mathematics based on a lattice-theoretic formalization of the notions of concept and conceptual hierarchy. It thereby facilitates mathematical thinking for conceptual data analysis and knowledge processing. Isabelle, on the other hand, is a generic interactive theory development environment for implementing logical formalisms. It has been instantiated to support reasoning in several object-logics. Specialization of Isabelle for Higher Order Logic is ca...
Investigation of housing valuation models based on spatial and non-spatial techniques
Boza, Ertuğrul; Düzgün, H. Şebnem; Türel, Ali; Department of Geodetic and Geographical Information Technologies (2015)
The aim of this thesis is to develop hedonic housing valuation models based on spatial (SAR-simultaneous spatial autoregression and GWR - geographically weighted regression) and non-spatial (OLS - ordinary least squares) techniques, to compare the performances of these models and to investigate significant factors affecting housing value. The developed housing valuation models were tested at the Çankaya and Keçiören districts of Ankara province, Turkey. The results of the analyses revealed that significant ...
