We present a dynamic radio bandwidth management scheme for mobile communication systems to achieve a high level of QoS for both handoff calls and new calls, while at the same time to improve the utilization of wireless network resources. The simultaneous satisfaction of these two actually conflicting interests will be thanks to two major key features. First, due to the apriori information about handoff reservation requests that is provided by the mobile terminal. This information is based on the cell transition probabilities calculated by the mobile itself using collected information during past operations. Second, thanks to a two-way approach implemented in the radio resource reservation and new call admission processes. The two-way approach controls both the amount of reservation and the new call admission in a highly dynamic way, depending on subscriber mobility and network traffic conditions.

Dynamic Resource Management in Next Generation Networks based on Deep Q Learning
Aslan, Aysun; Bal Bozkurt, Gülce; Toker, Cenk (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE); 2021-1-07)
In next generation networks, with the increasing number of diverse mobile network service types, a major challenge lies in how to manage and support all mobile service users who have different Quality of Service (QoS) requirements. Network slicing term can be a solution to satisfy the heterogeneous network requests over a common physical infrastructure. Splitting the network into slices which have different properties (e.g., bandwidth requirements, delay tolerance, user density, etc.) allows to schedule and...
An Analytical Model for Bounded WSNs with Unreliable Cluster Heads and Links
Omondi, Fredrick A.; Shah, Purav; Gemikonakli, Orhan; Ever, Enver (2015-10-29)
In Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs), performance and availability are important in providing Quality of Service (QoS). WSNs are prone to failures that may result from software and hardware malfunctions, battery drain, tampering and link failures. In addition, sensors are resource constrained in terms of inadequate processing capacity, limited storage memory and restricted power supply. Alternating sensor operations between sleep and active modes whilst saving energy, has also introduced more challenges to th...
Secure Wireless Powered and Cooperative Jamming D2D Communications
Chu, Zheng; Nguyen, Huan X; Le, Tuan Anh; Karamanoglu, Mehmet; EVER, ENVER; Yazıcı, Adnan (2017-10-01)
This paper investigates a secure wireless-powered device-to-device (D2D) communication network in the presence of multiple eavesdroppers, where a hybrid base station (BS) in a cellular network not only provides power wirelessly for the D2D transmitter to guarantee power efficiency for the D2D network, but also serves as a cooperative jammer to interfere with the eavesdroppers. The cellular and D2D networks can belong to different service providers, which means that the D2D transmitter would need to pay for ...
A novel architecture proposal for multi-access management in IP-based future wireless networks
Altundaş, Süleyman; Buyurman, Baykal; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2003)
As the wireless networking technologies advance rapidly, providing mobile users with roaming freely in heterogeneous wireless access domains, the need for multi access arises. This thesis proposes a novel Mobile Multi-Access Management Architecture (MMA-IP) for IP-based future wireless networks. The thesis includes a proposal for a PhD study towards establishing such an architecture. MMA-IP enables mobile users to utilize multiple access domains synchronously and to switch seamlessly between different acces...
Evaluation of priority dependent and time scheduled MAC layer protocols for ad-hoc networks
Erdeğer, İsmail; Baykal, Buyurman; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2015)
Ad-hoc networks have very unique features, such as dynamic topologies, relatively limited bandwidth and wireless signal propagation schemes, which present various challenges for wireless communication. In this thesis, control mechanisms for channel access scheduling and topology in ad-hoc networks are evaluated, which utilize the information from two-hop neighborhood to cope with the communication difficulties in ad-hoc networks. Channel assignment is one of the most important topics for ad-hoc networks. Ch...
