Characterization of a metamaterial based on an S-Shaped resonator and a feeding transmission line using a new measurement technique is studied in this paper. First, the metamaterial is designed and simulated using conventional methods. Then, it is fabricated on microstrip and excited by using a microstrip transmission feedline. Measurements were carried out using a vector network analyzer by (SubMiniature version A) SMA coaxial terminations without needing any waveguide transmission lines. For both simulated and measured results, the effective constitutive parameters are retrieved and analyzed. Results show the practicality and feasibility of the proposed measurement method in the characterization of metamaterials for microstrip based microwave circuit applications.

Analysis of flexible pavements incorporating nonlinear resilient behavior of unbound granular layers
Karagöz, Cem; Acar, Soner Osman; Department of Civil Engineering (2004)
Traditionally, the resilient modulus values obtained from repeated unconfined or triaxial compression tests are used as the elastic modulus of granular layers in structural analysis of flexible pavements. Sometimes the resilient modulus of granular materials are estimated from known California bearing ratios (CBR) or stabilometer resistance (R) values by simple regression equations. On the other hand, it is well known that stress-strain relation for unbound granular materials is nonlinear and the resilient ...
Analysis of various microstrip printed geometries using closed-form green’s functions
Ülkü, İrem; Dural Ünver, Mevlüde Gülbin; Alatan, Lale; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2013)
In general, current distributions for different microstrip structures such as Single Microstrip Line (SML), Coupled Microstrip Line (CML) and Microstrip Patch Antenna (MPA) are obtained by using Method of Moments (MoM) in conjuction with closed-form spatial domain Green’s functions. Specifically, MPA is designed to obtain a Wideband Microstrip Patch Antenna (WMPA). The current distribution is acquired by the same analysis and bandwidth is obtained from the return loss graph for this WMPA. Standard MPA and W...
Design of Microstrip Quadruplet Filters on Filpro
Oruc, Sacid; Yıldırım, Nevzat (2018-11-02)
In this paper, a simple dimensional design procedure is developed for microstrip/stripline quadruplet filters by starting with direct BP synthesis of a lumped quadruplet with inverter couplings, K14, K12, K23 and K34. K14 is the cross-coupling inverter which creates a symmetric pair of finite transmission zeros (FTZ's) if the sign of K14 is opposite of the other inverters while a complex TZ is created if K14 has the same sign as the other inverters leading to linear phase (flat delay) responses. The LC reso...
Analysis of single Gaussian approximation of Gaussian mixtures in Bayesian filtering applied to mixed multiple-model estimation
Orguner, Umut (Informa UK Limited, 2007-01-01)
This paper examines the effect of the moment-matched single Gaussian approximation, which is made in various multiple-model filtering applications to approximate a Gaussian mixture, on the Bayesian filter performance. The estimation error caused by the approximation is analysed for both the prediction and the measurement updates of a Bayesian filter. An approximate formula is found for the covariance of the error caused by the approximation for a general Gaussian mixture with arbitrary components. The calcu...
PRODUCTION AND CHARACTERIZATION OF SIMPLE, FACE-CENTERED AND DIAMOND CUBIC LATTICES BY FUSED DEPOSITION MODELING USING POLYLACTIC ACID
DÖNMEZ, Arif; Evis, Zafer; Department of Engineering Sciences (2022-8-22)
This thesis focuses on the characterization of simple, face-centered and diamond cubic lattices produced by fused deposition modeling (FDM) using polylactic acid (PLA) under uniaxial compression loading condition. Four design parameters were set for each cubic lattice: with radius, without radius, hollow truss, and hollow and with radius. Test items were manufactured for all designed structures. Since changing the manufacturing direction changes the mechanical properties of cubic lattices, the tests were do...
