A three dimensional analytical model for crawl stroke swimming is developed in which the swimmer is modeled as a body and two arms connected to the body at the shoulder joints. Each arm is assumed to consist of three segments. The numerical results obtained from the model are compared with the results of two sets of experiments performed. In the first series of experiments, the tether forces developed in crawl stroke swimming are measured and a linear correlation between the tether force and the stroke rate is obtained. In the second series of experiments, untethered crawl stroke swimming for different arm position angles is recorded. The results are presented in graphical forms and the effect of stroke rate on swimming velocity is discussed.

Computer simulation of the human leg subjected to impact loading
Wang, XS; Turgut, TS; Nuri, A (SAGE Publications, 2003-01-01)
One of the most important tasks in clinical practice is to determine accurately the forces and displacements of the various anatomical structural components of the human leg, especially when subjected to impact loading. This paper therefore develops a computer simulation which describes the biodynamic response of the human lower extremity for realistic activities such as kicking by foot etc. Firstly, the paper derives the nonlinear equations of motion and nonlinear constraint equation governing the sagittal...
Prediction of forming limit curve at fracture for sheet metal using new ductile fracture criterion
Dizaji, Shahram Abbasnejad; Darendeliler, Haluk; KAFTANOĞLU, BİLGİN (Elsevier BV, 2018-05-01)
The application of ductile fracture criteria (DFCs) in numerical analysis of sheet metal forming processes can lead to the accurate determination of the fracture initiation. In this study, a new uncoupled ductile fracture criterion (DFC) has been developed which considers the effects of material parameters on the forming limit curves (FLCs) and can be easily implemented in the finite element codes. Two different constitutive models have been employed with the new DFC in order to evaluate the results obtaine...
Mechanical and microstructural characterization of 6061 aluminum alloy strips severely deformed by Dissimilar Channel Angular Pressing
Tan, Euren; KİBAR, Alp Aykut; Gür, Cemil Hakan (Elsevier BV, 2011-04-01)
Dissimilar Channel Angular Pressing (DCAP) is a severe plastic deformation technique to improve the mechanical properties of flat products by producing ultrafine grains. In this study, the changes in the microstructure and mechanical properties of 6061 Al-alloy strips deformed by various numbers of DCAP passes were investigated. Some DCAPed samples were also held at 200 degrees C and 350 degrees C to investigate the effect of post-annealing. Mechanical properties were determined by hardness and tension test...
Optical characteristics of Bi12SiO20 single crystals by spectroscopic ellipsometry
Isik, M.; Delice, S.; Nasser, H.; Hasanlı, Nızamı; Darvishov, N. H.; Bagiev, V. E. (Elsevier BV, 2020-12-01)
Structural and optical characteristics of Bi12SiO20 single crystal grown by the Czochralski method were investigated by virtue of X-ray diffraction (XRD) and spectroscopic ellipsometry measurements. XRD analysis indicated that the studied crystal possesses cubic structure with lattice parameters of a = 1.0107 nm. Spectral dependencies of several optical parameters like complex dielectric constant, refractive index, extinction and absorption coefficients were determined using ellipsometry experiments perform...
Impact essential work of fracture toughness of ABS/polyamide-6 blends compatibilized with olefin based copolymers
Ozkoc, Guralp; Bayram, Göknur; Bayramli, Erdal (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2008-04-01)
The impact fracture toughness of acrylonitrile-styrene-butadiene/polyamide-6 (ABS/PA6) blends compatibilized with 5% by weight carbon monoxide modified ethylene-n butyl acrylate-maleic anhydride (EnBACO-MAH) or ethylene-methyl acrylate-glycidyl methacrylate (EMA-GMA) copolymers were examined as a function of blend ratio by standard Charpy tests, Essential Work of Fracture (EWF) Methodology and fracture surface morphologies. The samples were first processed in twin-screw extruder and they were subsequently i...
