A new orthorhombic phase of previously reported orthorhombic Na2GdOPO4, sodium gadolinium oxyphosphate, was synthesized by solid state reactions starting with four different sets of chemicals at 1000 degrees C. The unit cell dimensions were calculated using its powder X-ray diffraction data and were found to be a = 14.709(6), b = 10.661(4) and c = 13.081(6) Angstrom and the space group is probably Pmm2 (No: 25). its monoclinic form was also obtained by further heating the orthorhombic phase at 1000 degrees C. The unit cell dimensions of the monoclinic form was found to be a = 14.719(5), b = 10.669(3), c = 13.091(5) Angstrom and beta = 92.274 degrees(2). Using the same procedure Na2LaOPO4 was also prepared the first time in this work through three sets of starting materials at 1000 degrees C. Na2LaOPO4 also crystallizes in the orthorhombic system with a = 13.657(5), b = 11.076(5), c = 6.730(3) Angstrom which seems to be isostructural with Na2GdOPO4 prepared before in our laboratory. The IR data of both Gd and La compounds agreed with the literature values. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science S.A. All rights reserved.

Reported herein is the synthesis of the previously unknown [Ir(1,5-COD)(mu-H)](4) (where 1,5-COD = 1,5-cyclooctadiene), from commercially available [Ir(1,5-COD)Cl](2) and LiBEt3H in the presence of excess 1,5-COD in 78% initial, and 55% recrystallized, yield plus its unequivocal characterization via single-crystal X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray absorption fine structure (XAFS) spectroscopy, electrospray/atmospheric pressure chemical ionization mass spectrometry (ESI-MS), and UV-vis, IR, and nuclear magnetic...
Synthesis of N-substituted Pyrido[4,3-d]pyrimidines for the Large-Scale Production of Self-Assembled Rosettes and Nanotubes

N-substituted pyrido[4,3-d]pyrimidines are heterocycles which exhibit the asymmetric hydrogen bonding codes of both guanine and cytosine at 60 degrees angles to each other, such that the molecules self-organize unambiguously into a cyclic hexamer, assembled via 18 intermolecular hydrogen bonds. The synthesis is straightforward and can be concluded in six steps from the commercially available malononitrile dimer. X-ray crystallographic analysis of the supermacrocyclic structure shows an undulating disk with ...
Synthesis and polymerization of 2-and 3-substituted thiophene derivatives linked by polyether bridges
Tirkeş, Süha; Önal, Ahmet Muhtar (Elsevier BV, 2004-11-15)
New compounds consisting of 2- and 3-thienyl units linked by polyether bridges have been synthesized and their electrochemical polymerization was performed via constant potential electrolysis (CPE) in an electrolytic solution containing 0.1 M tetrabutylammonium hexafluorophosphate (TBAPF(6)) dissolved in CH3CN. 2-Thienyl monomers (I and II), but not 3-thienyl monomers (III and IV), were also polymerized via chemical oxidation, which yielded broken pi-conjugated polymer products. The polymers were characteri...
Interaction of BrPDI, BrGly, and BrAsp with the Rutile TiO2(110) Surface for Photovoltaic and Photocatalytic Applications: A First-Principles Study
Cakir, D.; GÜLSEREN, Oğuz; METE, ERSEN; Ellialtıoğlu, Süleyman Şinasi (American Chemical Society (ACS), 2011-05-12)
The adsorption of perylenediimide (PDI)-based dye compounds (BrPDI, BrGly, and BrAsp) on the defect-free unreconstructed (UR) rutile TiO2(110) surface has been studied using total energy pseudopotential calculations based on density functional theory. All dye molecules form moderate chemical bonds with the defect-free UR rutile (110) surface in the most stable adsorption configurations. Electronic structure analysis reveals that HOMO and LUMO levels of the adsorbed dye molecules appear within the band gap a...
Synthesis, characterization and electrochromic properties of copolymer of 3-{[4-(thien-3-yl-methoxy)phenoxy]methyl} thiophene with thiophene
Erden, Ayca; Sahin, Elif; Gullu, Mustafa; Toppare, Levent Kamil (Elsevier BV, 2006-08-01)
(3- {[4-(Thien-3-yl-methoxy)phenoxy]methyl} thiophene) (TMPMT) was synthesized via the reaction of 3-bromomethyl-thiophene with hydroquinone and characterized by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). Electrochemical copolymerization of TMPMT with thiophene in acetonitrile/boron trifluoride diethyl etherate (AN/BFEE) solvent mixture was achieved using tetrabutylammonium tetrafluoroborate (TBAFB) as the supporting electrolyte. Resulting copolymer was characterize...
