In the present work, the magnetic properties and the phase composition of barium ferrite BaFe12O19 powders prepared by the ammonium nitrate melt technique with Fe/Ba ratios varying from 2 to 13 was investigated. We observed that BaFe2O4 phase is formed at low values of Fe/Ba ratios (2-6) and alpha-Fe2O3 phase is formed at high values of Fe/Ba ratio as secondary phases. BaFe2O4 phase could be easily eliminated from the structure by washing the annealed powders with diluted HCI.HCI-washing is not effective for the elimination of alpha-Fe2O3 phase. Consequently, we succeed to obtain high quality single phase BaFe12O19 Powders at low Fe/Ba ratios. Highest specific saturation magnetization M, of the powders with Fe/Ba ratio of 2 was determined to be 66.7 emu/g.

Properties of YBCO superconductors prepared by ammonium nitrate melt and solid-state reaction methods
Sozeri, Huseyin; Ozkan, Husnu; Ghazanfari, Nader (Elsevier BV, 2007-01-31)
Ceramic YBCO superconductors were prepared by: (1) ammonium nitrate melt, (2) solid-state reaction methods and the properties of the samples obtained were compared. Under the same annealing conditions single phase YBCO was synthesized at a lower temperature by the former method. Moreover, at 900 degrees C Y-123 phase and the initially adjusted Y-211 additive could be formed using ammonium nitrate melt, but not with the solid-state method which leads Y-123 at a higher temperature (950 degrees C) without Y-21...
Processing of porous TiNi alloys using magnesium as space holder
Aydogmus, Tarik; Bor, Sakir (Elsevier BV, 2009-06-10)
Slightly Ni-rich, chemically homogeneous porous TiNi alloys having porosities in the range 59-81% have been produced using magnesium powder as pore forming agent. TiNi in the form of austenite, apart from a small amount of martensite, was the only phase present in the product. The processed alloys exhibited interconnected open pores spherical in shape and with an average pore size around 400 mu m. Elastic modulus values observed to extend from 0.5 to 9 GPa depending on porosity content were comparable to th...
Synthesis of a regular polymer containing pseudo-polyether cages
Cihaner, A; Önal, Ahmet Muhtar (Elsevier BV, 2005-04-20)
A new compound consisting of 2-thienyl units linked by polyether bridge has been synthesized and its electrochemical polymerization was performed via constant potential electrolysis (CPE) in an electrolytic solution containing 0.1 M tetrabutylammonium hexafluorophosphate (TBAPF(6)) dissolved in CH3CN. Chemical polymerization was carried out using FeCl3 as oxidizing agent. It is found that both methods gave the same polymer product without any cleavage of the polyether bridge between thiophene (Th) rings. Al...
