In this article we investigate a periodic review inventory model under deterministic dynamic demand and supply unavailability. In a given period, supply is either available or completely unavailable with given probabilities. Supply unavailability probabilities are nonstationary over time. We show the optimality of an order-up-to level policy, and obtain a newsboy-like formula that determines the optimal order-up-to levels. Our formula would provide guidence as to the appropriate amount of inventory to stock in the face of uncertainties in the supply process.

Analysis of an inventory system under supply uncertainty
Gullu, R; Onol, E; Erkip, N (Elsevier BV, 1999-03-20)
In this paper, we analyze a periodic review, single-item inventory model under supply uncertainty. The objective is to minimize expected holding and backorder costs over a finite planning horizon under the supply constraints. The uncertainty in supply is modeled using a three-point probability mass function. The supply is either completely available, partially available, or the supply is unavailable. Machine breakdowns, shortages in the capacity of the supplier, strikes, etc., are possible causes of uncerta...
The inventory routing problem with deterministic order-up-to level inventory policies
Pınar, Özlem; Süral, Haldun; Department of Industrial Engineering (2005)
This study is concerned with the inventory routing problem with deterministic, dynamic demand and order-up-to level inventory policy. The problem mainly arises in the supply chain management context. It incorporates simultaneous decision making on inventory management and vehicle routing with the purpose of gaining advantage from coordinated decisions. An integrated mathematical model that represents the features of the problem is presented. Due to the magnitude of the model, lagrangean relaxation solution ...
Generation of patterned indentations for additive manufacturing technologies
Yaman, Ulaş; Dölen, Melik; Hoffmann, Christoph (Informa UK Limited, 2019-02-01)
This article proposes a novel approach to generate patterned indentations for different additive manufacturing methodologies. Surface textures have many practical applications in various fields, but require special manufacturing considerations. In addition to conventional manufacturing processes, additive processes have also been utilized in the last decade to obtain textured surfaces. The current design and fabrication pipeline of additive manufacturing operations have many disadvantages in that respect. F...
Optimal pricing and production decisions in reusable container systems
Atamer, Büşra; Bakal, İsmail Serdar; Department of Industrial Engineering (2010)
In this study, we focus on pricing and production decisions in reusable container systems with stochastic demand. We consider a producer that sells a single product to the customers in reusable containers with two supply options: (i) brand-new containers, (ii) returned containers from customers. Customers purchasing the products may return the containers to the producer to receive a deposit price. The return quantity depends on both customer demand and the deposit price determined by the producer. Hence, th...
APPLICATION OF 3 NONLINEAR-PROGRAMMING TECHNIQUES IN OPTIMIZING MACHINING CONDITIONS
ESKICIOGLU, AM; ESKICIOGLU, H (SAGE Publications, 1992-01-01)
Mathematical models used for determining optimal machining conditions are non-linear functions subject to non-linear constraints. In this paper models for unit production cost and unit production time for multi-pass milling operations are developed, taking cutting speed, depth of cut, feed and number of passes as design variables. The problem is then solved by three non-linear programming methods, namely the generalized reduced gradient (GRG) method, the sequential unconstrained minimization technique (SUMT...
