The synthesis was performed by the electropolymerization of thiophene on a poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS)-coated platinum electrode at 2.2 V with tetrabutylammoniumtetrafloroborate (TBAFB) as a supporting electrolyte and with acetonitrile as a solvent. The characterization of the PDMS-polythiophene (Pth) composites was carried out with cyclic voltammetry, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis, and conductivity measurements. The observed conductivities of the PDMS composites were 2.2-5.2 S/cm. The conductivity of Pth did not change appreciably with the addition of up to 30% insulating PDMS, but its processability improved. FTIR, SEM, and DSC studies showed the existence of a strong interaction, rather than physical adhesion, between PDMS and Pth. Highly flexible and foldable PDMS-Pth composites were obtained. Synthesis and Characterization of a New Conducting Polymer Based on 4-(2,5-di-2-thiophen-2-yl-pyrrol-1-yl)-phthalonitrile
Yavuz, Arzu; Bezgin, Buket; Önal, Ahmet Muhtar (Wiley, 2009-12-05)
A new conducting polymer was synthesized by electrochemical polymerization of 4-(2,5-di-2-thiophen-2-yl-pyrrol-1-yl)-2-phthalonitrile (SNS-PN). Electrochemical polymerization of SNS-PN was performed in acetonitrile/0.2M LiClO4 solvent/electrolyte couple. Characterizations of the resulting polymer P(SNS-PN) were carried out by cyclic voltammetry, UV-vis, and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopic techniques. Spectroelectrochemical studies revealed that P(SNS-PN) has an electronic band gap of 2.45 eV...
Synthesis and characterization of epoxy based nanocomposites
Basara, G; Yılmazer, Ülkü; Bayram, Göknur (Wiley, 2005-11-01)
Epoxy-clay nanocomposites were synthesized to examine the effects of the content and type of different clays on the structure and mechanical properties of the nanocomposites. Diglycidyl ether of bisphenol-A (epoxy) was reinforced by 0.5-11 wt % natural (Cloisite Na+) and organically modified (Cloisite 3013) types of montmorillonite. SEM results showed that as the clay content increased, larger agglomerates of clay were present. Nano-composites with Cloisite 30B exhibited better dispersion and a lower degree...
Plasma-Induced, Solid-State Polymerization of N-Isopropylacrylamide
Unver, Alper; Akovali, Guneri (Wiley, 2010-03-15)
The radio-frequency plasma-initiated polymerization of N-isopropylacrylamide (NIPAM) in the solid state was performed. The isolated linear polymer was characterized by C-13-NMR, H-1-NMR, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and the effects of selected operational plasma parameters (discharge power and time) on the conversion rates were studied. Reversible transitions at the volume-phase-transition temperatures of the swelled poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) hydrogels were investigated by differential sca...
Synthesis and characterization of multi-hollow opaque polymer pigments
Asmaoglu, Serdar; Gündüz, Güngör; MAVİŞ, BORA; Colak, Uner (Wiley, 2016-08-05)
A new generation multihollow opaque polymer pigment was synthesized by suspension polymerization of water-in-oil-in-water emulsion method, where methyl methacrylate and ethylene glycol dimethacrylate monomer mixture was used as oil phase. The effects of surfactant and cosurfactant composition in terms of hydrophilic/lipophilic balance on the stability of the water-in-oil emulsion and the size of water droplets were studied. Low droplet sizes and the optimum stability were obtained with Span 80&Tween 80 surf...
Synthesis and optical properties of light-emitting π-conjugated polymers containing biphenyl and dithienosilole
LIAO, Liang; Çırpan, Ali; CHU, Qinghui; KARASZ, Frank E.; PANG, YI (Wiley, 2007-05-15)
Copolymers containing oligo(phenylene vinylene) (2.5), fluorene, and 4,4-dihexyldithienosilole (DTS) units were synthesized and characterized. The pi-conjugated monomers were joined with the palladium(0)-catalyzed Suzuki-Miyaura coupling reaction, thus forming either biphenyl- or phenyl-thiophene linkages. These polymers were photoluminescent, with the fluorescent quantum efficiency between 54 and 63% and with),lambda(max) for fluorescence at similar to 448 nm in tetrahydrofuran. The presence of 5% DTS in t...
