Carbon powder supported bimetallic 8w%Pt+8w%Pd/C, 8w%Pt+6w%Pd/C, 8w%Pt+4w%Pd/C, Sw%Pt+2w%Pd/C, 8w%Pt/C and 8w%Pd/C samples were prepared, characterised and tested for the electrooxidation of methanol. The particle sizes were found to depend greatly on the composition and the metal content. With pure palladium and samples rich in palladium, the diameter of the bimetallic particles was around 150 nm, but with pure Pt and samples poor in Pd it was much smaller, below 5 nm. The electrocatalytic activity of these catalysts was determined by cyclic voltammetry and polarization curves. Compounds with 33 and 43 at %Pd were the most active catalysts for the methanol oxidation reaction. A good correlation was obtained between electrochemistry and in situ infrared reflectance spectroscopy results.

Experimental investigation of drag reduction effects of polymer additives on turbulent pipe flow using ultrasound Doppler velocimetry
Zeybek Vural, Serife; Bayram, Göknur; Uludağ, Yusuf (The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey, 2014-01-01)
Drag reduction in fully developed turbulent pipe flow with 4 concentrations (200 to 500 wppm or mg/kg) of low molecular weight sodium carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) in aqueous solutions was investigated experimentally. Drag reduction was determined by pressure drop measurements. Maximum drag reduction achieved was 22% using 500 wppm CMC solution. To observe the impact of the presence of CMC on the flow, ultrasound Doppler velocimetry (UDV) was employed to monitor the instantaneous velocity distributions. Expe...
Thermal catalytic hydrosilylation of conjugated dienes with triethylsilane in the presence of tricarbonyl(o-xylene)metal (metal = Cr, Mo, W) complexes
Kayran, C; Rouzi, P (Walter de Gruyter GmbH, 2001-11-01)
The thermal catalytic hydrosilylation of 1,3-butadiene (1), trans-2-methyl-1, 3-pentadiene (2), 2,3-dimethyl-1,3-butadiene (3), and isoprene (4), with triethylsilane were studied in the presence of M(CO)(3) (o-xylene) (M = Cr, Mo, W) complexes in polar and nonpolar solvents such as tetrahydrofuran, hexane and toluene. Mo(CO)(3) (o-xylene) was found to be the only active catalyst for the hydrosilylation of 3 with triethylsilane, which gave 1-triethylsilyl-2,3-dimethyl-2-butene (3a), as hydrosilylated product...
CATALYTIC CHARACTERISTICS OF MASSIVE AND LOADED SULFONIC RESINS IN THE SYNTHESIS OF ETHYL tert-BUTYL ETHER AT ATMOSPHERIC AND INCREASED PRESSURE
Vlasenko, N. V.; Kochkin, Yu. N.; Strizhak, P. E.; Doğu, Timur; DOĞU, GÜLŞEN; OKTAR, NURAY; Degirmenci, L. (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2010-11-01)
The catalytic characteristics of massive and loaded sulfonic resins in the synthesis of ethyl tert-butyl ether at atmospheric and increased pressures have been compared. It has been established that massive sulfonic resins are more active than loaded resins at atmospheric pressure. At higher pressures, on the other hand, the activity and selectivity of catalysts are greater the lower the content of polymer as a result of the increased effectiveness of the acid centers.
Self-condensation reactions of acyl phosphonates: synthesis of tertiary O-protected alpha-hydroxyphosphonates
EYMUR, SERKAN; Gollu, Mehmet; Demir, Ayhan Sıtkı (The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey, 2014-01-01)
The self-condensation reaction of benzoyl dialkyl phosphonates was developed using cyanide ion as catalyst, affording versatile tertiary O-protected alpha-hydroxy phosphonates in moderate yield.
Preparation and characterization of carbon supported platinum nanocatalysts with different surfactants for C1 to C3 alcohol oxidations
Ertan, Salih; Gökağaç Arslan, Gülsün; Department of Chemistry (2011)
In this thesis, carbon supported platinum nanoparticles have been prepared by using PtCl4 as a starting material and 1-octanethiol, 1-decanethiol, 1-dodecanethiol and 1-hexadecanethiol as surfactants for methanol, ethanol and 2-propanol oxidation reactions. The structure, particle sizes and surface morphologies of the platinum were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), atomic force microscopy (AFM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). XRD and TEM results indicate that all prepared catalysts have ...
