The paper presents a new three phase 4 to 16 pole changing winding for an induction motor with 36 stator slots and 6 terminals. The principle of design is explained and the space harmonics are calculated for both of polarities. In order to obtain a higher fundamental winding factor and lower space harmonic content for 16-pole winding, a degree of non-uniformity was accepted for the slot filling factor. The winding is developed partially in single layer and partially in double layers and contains two types of coils wound by different wire diameter. An experimental motor with the new winding was built on a 6-pole base motor in the IEC frame 132 having the rated power of 4 kW for 4-poles (double star) and 1 kW (single star) for 16-poles. The test results have shown the validity of the design. The manufactured motor was modeled using 2D FEM field-circuit method in order to simulate the operation characteristics in the both speeds.

COMMUTATION ANGLE ANALYSIS OF A DOUBLE OUTPUT INDUCTION GENERATOR OPERATING IN SUB-SYNCHRONOUS AND SUPER-SYNCHRONOUS MODES
CADIRCI, I; ERMIS, M (1994-04-14)
A rigourous performance analysis of the double autpt indoction generator system with two controlled convaters hs been carried out including the effects of both the rotor side amvukr’s commutation an& and harmonics as well as the supply side converter’s harmonics. This is achieved by means of the hybrid induction machine model which allows for the changing states of conduction of the rotor side converter’s thyristors. The variations in overlapping angle of the rotor side convertex is obtained for a wide rang...
STARTING TRANSIENTS IN SLIP ENERGY RECOVERY INDUCTION-MOTOR DRIVES .2. FLOWCHART AND PERFORMANCE
AKPINAR, E; PILLAY, P; Ersak, Aydın (1992-03-01)
The first part of this two-part paper described the starting transients of a slip energy recovery IM drive using the rotor rectifier and a single resistor instead of three resistors and an ac circuit breaker. The starting transient was divided into three stages; the first was the resistance starting, the second was the connection of the inverter and the third was the disconnection of the starting resistor. The diode bridge rectifier imposes constraints onto the machine equations; the relevant equations fo...
Design optimization of variable frequency driven three-phase induction motors
Ertan, B; Leblebicioğlu, Mehmet Kemal; Simsir, B; Hamarat, S; Cekic, A; Pirgaip, M (1998-01-01)
An approach to optimize the design of three-phase induction motors for a wide speed range drive is considered. Two operating points in the speed range are taken into consideration. The problem is handled as a constrained optimization problem. An accurate model for the motor in terms of its dimensions has been developed which predicts the motor performance based on about 60 parameters of motor geometry.
DC Link Capacitor Optimization for Integrated Modular Motor Drives
Ugur, Mesut; Keysan, Ozan (2017-06-21)
In this paper, selection of optimum DC link capacitor for Integrated Modular Motor Drives (IMMD) is presented. First, a review of IMMD technologies is given and current research and future prospects are studied. Inverter topologies and gate drive techniques are evaluated in terms of DC link performance. The urge for volume reduction in IMMD poses a challenge for the selection of optimum DC link capacitor. DC Link capacitor types are discussed and critical aspects in selecting the DC links capacitor are list...
