An approach to optimize the design of three-phase induction motors for a wide speed range drive is considered. Two operating points in the speed range are taken into consideration. The problem is handled as a constrained optimization problem. An accurate model for the motor in terms of its dimensions has been developed which predicts the motor performance based on about 60 parameters of motor geometry.

Implementation of a vector controlled induction motor drive
Acar, Akın; Ertan, Hulusi Bülent; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2004)
High dynamic performance, which is obtained from dc motors, became achievable from induction motors with the recent advances in power semiconductors, digital signal processors and development in control techniques. By using field oriented control, torque and flux of the induction motors can be controlled independently as in dc motors. The control performance of field oriented induction motor drive greatly depends on the correct stator flux estimation. In this thesis voltage model is used for the flux estima...
Experimental investigation of shaft transducerless speed and position control of ac induction and interior permanent magnet motors
Goksu, Omer; Hava, Ahmet Masum (2010-01-01)
In order to drive AC motors with high efficiency and high motion performance, and to provide accurate speed/position control, motor shaft speed and/or position feedback is required. For this purpose, usually transducers (encoder, tachogenerator, resolver, etc.) are installed on the shaft. However, transducers are not preferred in most of the applications since they increase the cost and decrease the reliability of the drive due to their failure prone structure and connections. In such applications, the spee...
Design, Development and Implementation of Sensorless Digital Control of an Electric Motorization
Dida, Abdelkader Hadj; Bourahla, M.; Ertan, Hulusi Bülent; Benghanem, M. (2014-09-24)
The most industrial applications use the variation of the torque, speed and/or position in process, for which extremely severe specifications are needed. In the field of the drive of the electric machines, the elimination of the mechanical speed sensor can present an economic interest and improve safety of operation. One thus tries to make fulfill the speed measurement by implementing in a Digital signal processor (DSP) an algorithm of speed estimation using the current and voltage acquisition. Those method...
Design of a GaN Based Integrated Modular Motor Drive
Uğur, Mesut; Keysan, Ozan (2018-10-25)
In this study, design procedure of an Integrated Modular Motor Drive (IMMD) is presented focusing on high power density. The design is based on a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) and GaN FETs. Fractional slot concentrated windings are used on the stator. Slot/pole combination and winding configuration is selected based on having low cogging torque and high winding factor. An extended motor drive inverter topology is proposed where 2-level voltage source inverters are connected both in series and pa...
