The main and challenging evolutionary process that leads towards the so-called Smarter City is still represented by the optimization of the Intelligent Systems for the Quality of Life (QoL) and the Quality of Services (QoS), and by the integration of heterogeneous IT services and different networks. The scientific interest in this field consists of promoting innovative solutions by use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) able to collect, analyse and obtain value added from a large amount of data generated by several sources: IoT devices, sensor networks, wearable devices as well as sensor grids, widespread within the urban environment. Furthermore, creating synergies and integrating different enabling technologies and informative platforms, remains the most challenge to overcome in order to obtain the optimization of the services and the quality of life. The Smart City involves the implementation of digital strategies that are necessary people-centred and lead into high technology-based innovations to build more capacities and opportunities. In this context, this paper intends to investigate the possibility to integrate the innovative and multi-purpose Blockchain Technology in the smart city evolutionary process, and in particular in the Smart Environment and Smart Mobility by allowing renewable energy sources traceability and by providing information about the kind of energy used to refuel, for example, the selected vehicle. The expected result consists of more user awareness regarding the environmental and energy sustainability.

Blockchain in project management: a systematic review of use cases and a design decision framework
Sönmez, Rifat; Ahmadisheykhsarmast, Salar (2021-11-01)
Blockchain presents a novel technology for improving existing paradigms in a wide span of domains, including project management. In this paper, we first review the state of the art blockchain use cases in project management to reveal the current status of blockchain research and to identify the blockchain application domains in project management. We then present a framework based on the review results, to guide implementers and researchers on blockchain design decisions about privacy, transparency, decentr...
Parking management in smart built environment: evaluation of METU Campus
Genel, Vokan; Öztürk, Hande Işık; Tüydeş Yaman, Hediye; Department of Civil Engineering (2020-7)
With the ever-increasing number of vehicles and technological advancements, transportation-related social problems are addressed with more systematic and smarter solutions, as a part of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) services. Parking management is an ITS application area, where limited parking capacities can be efficiently and fairly utilized by more road users. However, detection of the true nature of parking demand and supply limits as well as the expected response to any policies and technolog...
Blockchain based solution for electronic health record integrity
Çelik, Kaan; Yayla, Oğuz; Department of Cryptography (2022-9-1)
With the development of technology, great developments have occurred in the healthcare area, as in every field. Over time, many solutions have been proposed for the processing of electronic health data. As a fact, there are critical factors that should be considered under these developments. This information in the field of electronic health is demanded both by some harmful organizations and people. In addition, there is an extensive market for these informations. Therefore, in electronic health data system...
Optimal deployment in randomly deployed heterogeneous WSNs: A connected coverage approach
SEVGİ, CÜNEYT; Koçyiğit, Altan (2014-11-01)
Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) are resource-scarce networks and the optimization of the resources is challenging. As far as random deployment is concerned, the optimization of these resources becomes even more difficult In this paper, a novel framework is proposed for solving optimal deployment problems for randomly deployed and clustered WSNs. In several existing approaches to solve these problems, either only partial-coverage is considered or only connectivity is analyzed when full-coverage is assured. T...
Spatial Indexing for System-Level Evaluation of 5G Heterogeneous Cellular Networks
Amiri, Roohollah; Balevi, Eren; Andrews, Jeffrey G.; Mehrpouyan, Hani (2020-01-01)
System level simulations of large 5G networks are essential to evaluate and design algorithms related to network issues such as scheduling, mobility management, interference management, and cell planning. In this paper, we look back to the idea of spatial indexing and its advantages, applications, and future potentials in accelerating large 5G network simulations. We introduce a multi-level inheritance based architecture which is used to index all elements of a heterogeneous network (HetNet) on a single geo...
