TUBITAK-BILTEN has initiated a project to develop and propagate small satellite technologies in Turkey. As part of this initiative, TUBITAK-BILTEN is working with SSTL to develop a 100kg class enhanced microsatellite, BILSAT-1. With the successful completion of this project, TUBITAK-BILTEN will be capable of producing its own satellites, covering all phases from design to production and in-orbit operation. It is hoped that acquisition of these technologies will stimulate Turkish industry into greater involvement in space related activities. The project was started in August 2001 and will run through to February 2003 with launch scheduled for July 2003.

Turkish Small Satellite Program: Goals and policies
Askar, M; Tekinalp, Ozan (2000-01-01)
Information Technologies and Electronics Research Institute (BILTEN) has initiated a low-earth orbit small satellite project in Turkey. This project is part of a program to achieve expertise on satellite related technologies. The main goal of the project is to transfer technology on building small satellites. For the realization of the project an international contractor will be named. The contractor will be responsible of a technology transfer program as well as manufacture and launch of a small satellite ...
GEZGIN-2: An advanced image processing subsystem for earth-observing small satellites
Ismailoglu, N; Benderli, O; Yesil, S; Sever, Ramazan; Okcan, B; Oktem, R (2005-06-11)
GEZGIN-2 is a real-time image processing subsystem, currently being developed for RASAT, the second small satellite to be launched by TUBITAK-BILTEN, in 2007. It is an advanced version of the GEZGIN payload, implementing JPEG 2000 image compression algorithm and currently flying on the BILSAT-1 satellite. The main enhancements in GEZGIN-2 are the integration of the full processing path of JPEG 2000 algorithm in a single Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) for increased processing performance and high speed...
First LEO Satellite Built in Turkey: RASAT
YÜKSEL, GÖKHAN; OKAN, ALTUĞ; Leloğlu, Uğur Murat (2007-06-16)
BiLSAT* project was the first step to initiate and to improve satellite technologies in Turkey and it covered all major steps to establish the necessary infrastructure in Turkey to design, build and test a LEO satellite entirely in the country. As a second step, RASAT project has been initiated in year 2004. Except for some systems; like imaging system and solar panels, the technology of which are not yet available in Turkey; RASAT Will totally be built and integrated at TUBITAK-UZAY facilities. The imaging...

KESKİN, ONUR; YEŞİLYAPRAK, CAHİT; Yerli, Sinan Kaan; ZAGO, LORENZO; JOLISSAINT, LAURENT (2014-07-22)
The DAG (Turkish for Eastern Anatolia Observatory) 4-m telescope project has been formally launched in 2012, being fully funded by the Government of Turkey. This new observatory is to be located on a 3170 m altitude ridge near the town of Erzurum in Eastern Anatolia. First light is scheduled for late 2017. The DAG team's baseline design of the telescope consists of a Ritchey-Chretien type with alt-az mount, a focal length of 56 m and a field of view up to 30 arcmin. Multiple instruments will be located at t...
