Information Technologies and Electronics Research Institute (BILTEN) has initiated a low-earth orbit small satellite project in Turkey. This project is part of a program to achieve expertise on satellite related technologies. The main goal of the project is to transfer technology on building small satellites. For the realization of the project an international contractor will be named. The contractor will be responsible of a technology transfer program as well as manufacture and launch of a small satellite with prescribed missions. The details of this program is given and explained. Information regarding BILTEN is also given, (C) 2000 Published by Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.

BILSAT-1: A low-cost, agile, earth observation microsatellite for Turkey
Bradford, A; Gomes, LM; Sweeting, M; Yuksel, G; Ozkaptan, C; Orlu, U (2003-08-01)
TUBITAK-BILTEN has initiated a project to develop and propagate small satellite technologies in Turkey. As part of this initiative, TUBITAK-BILTEN is working with SSTL to develop a 100kg class enhanced microsatellite, BILSAT-1. With the successful completion of this project, TUBITAK-BILTEN will be capable of producing its own satellites, covering all phases from design to production and in-orbit operation. It is hoped that acquisition of these technologies will stimulate Turkish industry into greater involv...
Turkish chemical sectoral innovation system: a case study on R&D centers
Boyacı, Aslı; Pamukçu, M. Teoman.; Department of Science and Technology Policy Studies (2019)
This thesis aims to analyze the innovation landscape of the chemical sector in Turkey through face-to-face interviews with six R&D centers operating in the chemical industry. R&D centers are selected for the case study as they are one of the most critical actors conducting R&D and innovation activities in the sector. The sector was investigated within a set of three sub-sectors as follows: basic chemicals, specialty chemicals, and consumer chemicals. In this thesis, the sectoral innovation system (SIS) appr...

With the successful completion of this project, TUBITAK-BILTEN will be capable of producing its own satellites, covering all phases from design to production and in-orbit operation. The project was started in August 2001 and BILSAT-1, shown i...
Turkey s next big science project DAG the 4 meter telescope
KESKİN, ONUR; YEŞİLYAPRAK, CAHİT; Yerli, Sinan Kaan; ZAGO, LORENZO; JOLISSAINT, LAURENT (2014-07-22)
The DAG (Turkish for Eastern Anatolia Observatory) 4-m telescope project has been formally launched in 2012, being fully funded by the Government of Turkey. This new observatory is to be located on a 3170 m altitude ridge near the town of Erzurum in Eastern Anatolia. First light is scheduled for late 2017. The DAG team's baseline design of the telescope consists of a Ritchey-Chretien type with alt-az mount, a focal length of 56 m and a field of view up to 30 arcmin. Multiple instruments will be located at t...
Feasibility study on thermal survivability of X-Band subsystem on RASAT microsatellite
Okan, A (2005-06-11)
After the launch and commissioning of the first Turkish remote sensing satellite BILSAT-1(center dot), TUBITAK BILTEN has initiated the RASAT microsatellite project. RASAT will be a remote sensing microsatellite at low Earth orbit (LEO), with a mass of around 100 kg and an orbital average power of 38W. RASAT is planned to he launched in 2007 and will be the first satellite to be designed and manufactured entirely in Turkey.
