Effects of human granulocyte-colony stimulating factor on fracture healing in rats
Bozlar, M; Aslan, B; Kalaci, A; Baktiroglu, L; Yanat, AN; Tasci, A (2005-08-01)
Objective: Granulocyte colony stimulation factor (G-CSF) is generally used to prevent and cure the neutropenia associated with chemotherapy and bone marrow transplantation. In addition to its effects on neutrophil function, G-CSF was found to have the characteristic of modulating the cytokines in the inflammatory response. Then, the question to answer is whether it has any effect on fracture healing and to what extent? In this study, we test the effects of G-CSF on the healing of tibia fracture in a rat model.
Effects of Early Postnatal Exposure to Ethanol on Retinal Ganglion Cell Morphology and Numbers of Neurons in the Dorsolateral Geniculate in Mice
Dursun, Ilknur; Jakubowska-Dogru, Ewa; van der List, Deborah; Liets, Lauren C.; Coombs, Julie L.; Berman, Robert F. (Wiley, 2011-11-01)
Background: The adverse effects of fetal and early postnatal ethanol intoxication on peripheral organs and the central nervous system are well documented. Ocular defects have also been reported in about 90% of children with fetal alcohol syndrome, including microphthalmia, loss of neurons in the retinal ganglion cell (RGC) layer, optic nerve hypoplasia, and dysmyelination. However, little is known about perinatal ethanol effects on retinal cell morphology. Examination of the potential toxic effects of alcoh...
Effects of early postnatal alcohol exposure on the developing retinogeniculate projections in C57BL/6 mice
DURSUN, İLKNUR; Jakubowska-Dogru, Ewa; Elibol-Can, Birsen; van der List, Deborah; Chapman, Barbara; Qi, Lihong; Berman, Robert F. (Elsevier BV, 2013-05-01)
Previous studies on the adverse effects of perinatal exposure to ethanol (EtOH) on the developing visual system mainly focused on retinal and optic nerve morphology. The aim of the present study was to investigate whether earlier reported retinal and optic nerve changes are accompanied by anomalies in eye-specific fiber segregation in the dorsal lateral geniculate nucleus (dLGN). C57BL/6 mice pups were exposed to ethanol by intragastric intubation at either 3 or 4 g/kg from postnatal days (PD) 3-10, the thi...
Effect of stenosis shape on the sound emitted from a constricted blood vessel
Ozden, Kamil; Sert, Cüneyt; Yazıcıoğlu, Yiğit (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2020-03-01)
Effect of stenosis shape on the post-stenotic pressure fluctuations and the sound emitted from a constricted blood vessel is studied numerically. Large eddy simulations are performed using OpenFOAM under pulsatile flow conditions with a non-Newtonian fluid model. Findings indicate that the high slope at the stenosis entrance and overlap of more than one stenosis shorten the length of the flow jet, trigger turbulence, and increase vortical activity, turbulent kinetic energy, and magnitude of pressure fluctua...
Effects of anaerobic digestion enhanced by ultrasound pretreatment on the fuel properties of municipal sludge
Çelebi, Emrehan Berkay; Aksoy, Ayşegül; Sanin, Faika Dilek (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2020-05-01)
In this study, effects of ultrasound pretreatment on combustion characteristics and elemental composition of municipal sludge were examined for energy-based evaluation of sludge pretreatment. Waste activated sludge (WAS) from a municipal wastewater treatment plant was pretreated with ultrasound at varying durations and was subjected to anaerobic digestion in a biochemical methane potential (BMP) assay. Changes in gas production rates, calorific value (CV), elemental compositions, and ash contents of sludge ...
