There are over 1900 cryptocurrencies trading in cryptocurrency exchanges as of June 2020 and the number is rapidly growing. In the current crypto scene, cryptocurrencies are seen as investment vehicles by many, yet every crypto asset is designed to operate in a specific sector within a pre-defined business model. There are many characteristics that differentiate one crypto asset from another and there are numerous internal and external factors that affect each crypto asset differently depending on these characteristics. Crypto investors can leverage these factors and characteristics and use these indicators to create different trading strategies. In this thesis, to guide the investors, we classify the crypto assets under various characteristics and provide sentiment analysis on crypto related news. As our first major task, we focus on automated annotation of the cryptocurrencies in terms of sector, transaction anonymity and asset type through the public information. To this aim, we generated an annotated dataset by collecting information from various sources. The collected dataset includes cryptocurrency descriptions annotated with sector, asset type and transaction anonymity labels. For this task, we utilized a divide-and-conquer supervised learning approach and compared its performance against several supervised learning algorithms for the three aspects. As our second major task, we focus on automated sentiment analysis of crypto asset related news on news title, summary and content. For this, we have generated an annotated news dataset that is collected from various public news sources. We use this dataset to fine-tune a successful neural network model that is trained on financial sentiment analysis task and compared its performance to various dictionary-based methods.

Power laws and Gaussians for stock market fluctuations
Tuncay, Çağlar (Elsevier BV, 2007-01-15)
The daily financial volume of transaction on the New York Stock Exchange and its day-to-day fluctuations are analysed with respect to power-law tails as well to their long-term trends. We also model the transition to a Gaussian distribution for longer time intervals, like months instead of days.

The results indicate that the number of ICOs in the ...
Topology-Aware Cooperative Data Protection in Blockchain-Based Decentralized Storage Networks
Yang, Siyi; Hareedy, Ahmed; Calderbank, Robert; Dolecek, Lara (2020-06-01)
The continuous rise of the blockchain technology is moving various information systems towards decentralization. Blockchain-based decentralized storage networks (DSNs) offer significantly higher privacy and lower costs to customers compared with centralized cloud storage associated with specific vendors. Coding is required to retrieve data stored on failing components. While coding solutions for centralized storage have been intensely studied, those for DSNs have not yet been discussed. In this paper, we pr...
Ülke Riski, Sermaye Maliyeti ve Uluslararası Varlık Yönetimi
Küçükkaya, Halit Engin; Uzunkaya, Mehmet(2013-12-31)
This study aims at testing the presence of a long-run relation between disaggregated country risk ratings and country stock market index movements for a large number of developing and developed countries. In other words, we hypothesize that since country risk ratings reflect financial, economic and political fundamentals of a country, from which stock prices are known to be affected, disaggregated country risk ratings can act as long-run state variables for predicting country stock market movements and ther...
