Rheological characterization of tahin/pekmez (sesame paste/concentrated grape juice) blends
Arslan, Elif; Esin, Ali; Yener, Esra; Department of Food Engineering (2003)
The aim of this study was to determine the rheological properties of tahin/pekmez blends at different tahin concentrations (20-32%) and temperatures (35-65 C) by using a concentric cylinder rotational viscometer. Samples were sheared with seven different rotational speeds at an increasing order. The shear rates (0.75-63.9 s-1) were calculated by the Power-law Approximation method. Tahin/pekmez blends were found to exhibit non-Newtonian, shear thinning behavior at all temperatures and tahin concentrations. T...
Thermal characterization of crude oils in the presence of limestone matrix by TGA-DTG-FTIR
Kök, Mustafa Verşan; Nurgaliev, Danis K. (2017-06-01)
In present work oxidation of two heavy oils in limestone matrix was studied using simultaneous thermo-gravimetry (TGA), derivative thermogravimetry (DTG) and FTIR-spectroscopy techniques in the temperature range from 25 to 900 degrees C. Before the measurements, the composition and properties of crude oils and limestone were evaluated. Obtained TG and DTG curves shows four different reaction regions: low temperature oxidation (LTO), fuel deposition (FD), high temperature oxidation (HTO) and decomposition of...
Thin section high cooling rate solidification, thermomechanical processing and characterization of AISI DC53 cold work tool steel
Çardaklı, İsmail Seçkin; Kalkanlı, Ali; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2019)
In this study, firstly, the solidification behaviour of AISI DC53 cold work tool steel was investigated by means of a cooling curve and its first derivative. Copper and sand wedge-shaped moulds were used to obtain various solidification rates. To reveal the cooling rate degree during solidification, the secondary dendrite arm spacing of the steel alloy was examined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The solidification rates of each section for both wedge steel samples were calculated by means of the sec...
Dry sliding wear behaviour of Al-Fe-Si-V alloys at elevated temperatures
Koraman, Emrah; Baydoğan, Murat; Sayilgan, Seda; Kalkanlı, Ali (2015-01-15)
High temperature strength of Al-Fe-V-Si alloys due to quaternary silicide dispersoids in their microstructures has been well documented in the literature. In those works, these materials have been shown as promising candidates to compete with titanium alloys at elevated temperatures. However, there is a lack of information on elevated temperature wear behaviour of those materials, which should be one of the main considerations at elevated temperature use. In order to contribute to this field, dry sliding we...
Kinetic analysis of oxidation behavior of crude oil SARA constituents
Kök, Mustafa Verşan; Pamir, R (1998-05-01)
In this research two Turkish crude oils (medium and heavy) were separated into their saturate, aromatic, resin, and asphaltene (SARA) fractions by column chromatographic techniques, and combustion experiments were carried out on whole crude oils and their fractions by thermogravimentric analysis (TD/DTG) under air atmosphere at a 10 degrees C/min heating rate. Investigation of SARA fractions allows quantitative determination of the temperature intervals at which evaporation, oxidation, and combustion effect...
