We investigate exports and imports of Turkey for the main BEC sectors. We find that the trade equations do not remain stable when an endogenous regime change is taken account. Exports and imports are basically determined by world output and domestic income, respectively, with substantially high elasticities. Consistent with the fact that Turkish integration to global value chains has substantaily increased, exchange rate elasticities decrease during the recent period. The external income elasticity of exports is substantially higher than the domestic income elasticity of imports. (8) (PDF) Structural Change in Turkish External Trade: Evidence from BEC Sectors.

The Commercial real estates production in İstanbul in the globalization process
Gökyer, Gökçen; Türel, Ali; Department of City and Regional Planning (2012)
Istanbul undertakes about half of the imports and exports of the country which has been increasing the importance. It is the most developed city in Turkey with a population reaching up to 13.255.685 people in 2010 consisting of %17.98 of the national population. The service sector demand and the real estate production are expected to be high together with the Istanbul’s rising position in the globalization process. Upon the increase in demand for global sectors, the production of the commercial real estate ...
History Matters for the Export Decision: Plant-Level Evidence from Turkish Manufacturing Industry
Oezler, Sule; Taymaz, Erol; Yilmaz, Kamil (Elsevier BV, 2009-02-01)
We analyze the export decision of Turkish manufacturing plants from 1990 to 2001. In addition to the presence of high Sunk costs of entry in export market,,, we find support for the hypothesis that the full history of exporting matters for the current export decision. However, the effect of the past export experience on current export decision depreciates rapidly with time: recent export market participation matters more than the participation further in the past. Finally, while persistence in exporting hel...
Potential effects of the T-TIP on Turkey's motor vehicles and parts sector
Akel, Abdullah; Ege, Aylin (National Library of Serbia, 2019)
The aim of this article is to quantify the possible effects of a potential T-TIP between the US and the EU on production and exports of Turkey?s motor vehicles and parts sector. A partial equilibrium model is used to this end under two scenarios, the first one assuming only T-TIP, whereas the second one supposing a simultaneous free trade agreement between the US and Turkey. The simulations are based on the reductions in tariffs and non-tariff barriers between the T-TIP partners in the first scenari...
Debt sustainability and the exchange rate: The case of Turkey
Keyder, Nur (Orta Doğu Teknik Üniversitesi (Ankara, Turkey), 2003-6-1)
The paper attempts to estimate the primary surplus requirement for debt sustainability in Turkey, taking into consideration not only the operational deficit and seigniorage factors but also the exchange rate factor. In estimations, a modified version of the approach suggested by the World Bank (World Bank, 2000, “Turkey-Country Economic Memorandum-Structural Reforms for Sustainable Growth, Vol. I and II”, Report No. 20657-TU, Washington, DC, 16-18; 121-4) is used. The analysis is carried out in two steps. F...
The impact of CEO and human capital characteristics on SME export performance
Mert, Ayşe; Acar, Feride Pınar; Department of Business Administration (2007)
The objective of this study is to investigate the determinants of the export behavior of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Turkey. In SMEs, key decision makers play important roles; therefore, studying the impact of managerial characteristics is of paramount importance for understanding the determinants of SME export behavior. Particularly, possible relations between CEO age, tenure, level of education, international experience and foreign language skills and the export performance of SMEs will b...
