In this study, soft magnetic Ni-Fe permalloy compacts were consolidated through microwave and conventional sintering routes at combinations of various sintering temperatures and compaction pressures. Sintered alloys were characterized in terms of their densification, microstructural evolution as well as magnetic and machanical properties. The effect of sintering method in terms of the applied sintering parameters on the final properties of the compacts were investigated in a comparative manner. It was determined that microwave sintered permalloys are superior compared to their conventionally sintered counterparts in densification response, microstructural characteristics such as pore shape and distribution as well as mechanical properties. However, permeabilities of the microwave sintered permalloys were inferior to their conventionallty sintered counterparts possibly due to microstructural refinement associated with microwave sintering route.

Effect of AlF3, CaF2 and MgF2 on hot-pressed hydroxyapatite-nanophase alpha-alumina composites
Evis, Zafer (2008-10-02)
Nanophase alpha-alumina and hydroxyapatite composites (with and without 5 wt% AlF3, CaF2 or MgF2 added separately) were hot pressed at 1100 degrees C and 1200 degrees C to investigate their mechanical properties and phase stability. Hydroxyapatite slightly decomposed to tri-calciurn-phosphate when there was no F- present. With the addition of AlF3, CaF2 or MgF2 into the composite, it improved its thermal stability and mechanical properties. Substitution of OH- by F- ions in hydroxyapatite was verified by th...
Effect of expandable graphite on flame retardant, thermal and mechanical properties of thermoplastic polyurethane composites filled with huntite&hydromagnesite mineral
Guler, Turkan; Tayfun, Umit; Bayramlı, Erdal; DOĞAN, Mehmet (2017-01-10)
The effect of expandable graphite (EG) was studied on the flame retardant, thermal and mechanical properties of thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) containing huntite&hydromagnesite (HH). According to the flammability tests results, the synergistic interaction was observed between HH and EG. The maximum limiting oxygen index (LOI value was observed at a ratio of 1:1 (HH:EG) and the highest vertical burning test (UL-94) rating of V0 was observed at a ratios of 4:1, 3:2 and 1:1. The synergistic interaction betwe...
Effects of pressure and electric field on the charge transport mechanisms in the silver-modified-zeolite porous microstructure
Koc, Sevgul Ozturk; Koseoglu, Kivilcim; Galioglu, Sezin; Akata Kurç, Burcu; SALAMOV, BAHTİYAR (2016-03-15)
The electrical properties and charge transport mechanisms for nanoporous natural zeolite of clinoptilolite and its silver modified form were studied for the first time in a wide gas pressure range (4-760 Torr) and electric field strength (50-350 kV/cm) at room temperature using two different cell configurations. One of the used cells contained a gas discharge gap, which allowed investigating the electronic conduction route in zeolite cathodes (ZC) as well. The influence of pressure, electric field and cell ...
Effect of post-processing heat treatment on the mechanical properties of inconel 718 fabricated by selective laser melting
Özer, Seren; Dericioğlu, Arcan Fehmi; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2020)
In this study, effect of the building direction and post-processing heat treatments on the microstructure and high temperature mechanical properties of as-fabricatedInconel 718 alloys have been investigated. Inconel 718 samples were fabricated in two different building directions such that their longitudinalaxes wereeither parallel (horizontally built) or perpendicular (vertically built) to the building plate. During the selective laser melting (SLM)process, some undesired features can...
Production and characterization of porous titanium alloys
Esen, Ziya; Bor, Şakir; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2007)
In the present study, production of titanium and Ti6Al4V alloy foams has been investigated using powder metallurgical “space holder technique” in which magnesium powder were utilized to generate porosities in the range 30 to 90 vol. %. Also, sintering of titanium and Ti-6Al-4V alloy powders in loose and compacted condition at various temperatures (850-1250oC) and compaction pressures (120-1125 MPa), respectively, were investigated to elucidate the structure and mechanical properties of the porous cell walls...
