2D phase-field simulation and experimental validation of droplet formation in a flow-focusing junction
Atik, Ali Can; Yıldırım, Ender; Külah, Haluk (null; 2020-10-04)
In this study, we investigated the performance of 2D simulations to predict the droplet sizes under varying flow conditions. Simple 2D models are lacking in presenting correct results because the top and bottom wall boundaries are excluded despite their significant effect on the flow construction. Here, we added an extra drag term representing the pressure drop due to the resistance of these boundaries to the Navier-Stokes equation. We compared the modified 2D model with the 3D model and experimental data, ...
3D Numerical simulation of nonenergetic reactive armor
Saeidi, Farid; Kurt, Mert Can; Gürses, Ercan; Çöker, Demirkan (null; 2015-09-12)
Non-energetic reactive armors also called bulging armors are known for their effectiveness against shaped charges. These composite structures consist of two metal plates and an intermediate non-metallic layer. Soft materials like rubber or polymers are often preferred for the intermediate layer. In this paper, interaction of shaped charge jet with bulging armor is studied and the eects of material parameters of the intermediate layer are investigated by using 3d numerical simulations.
3D Simulation of Dynamic Delamination in Curved Composite Laminates
Ata, Tamer Tahir; Çöker, Demirkan (Elsevier BV; 2019-01-01)
In this study, dynamic fracture of curved carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) laminates under quasi-static loading is investigated using explicit three dimensional (3D) finite element method in conjunction with Cohesive Zone Modelling (CZM). The simulations are based on the experimental studies conducted by Tasdemir (2018). Three dimensional finite element models of two different ply architectures (unidirectional and fabric laminate) are generated corresponding to the experimental configurations. The com...
2D correlated diffusion process for mobility modeling in mobile networks
Çakar, Tunç; Baykal, Buyurman; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2004)
This thesis introduces a novel mobility model based on so called أ2D correlated diffusion processؤ. In this model, motion components over x and y axes are dependent. Joint density function of the process is derived. The expected exit time from an arbitrary domain is characterized by a boundary value problem. Analytical solution of this problem is given for a specific case. Numerical solution of the problem is presented by several examples. The results obtained in these examples are verified by simulations. ...
