The evaluation of high hydrostatic pressure effects on bovine blood constituents and the microbial survival
Ceylan, Çağatay; Bozoğlu, Faruk; Department of Biotechnology (2005)
The main objective of this study was to investigate the effects of high hydrostatic pressure on the stability of blood constituents for the purpose of an effective reduction of viral and bacterial count. The effect of HHP treatment on the several blood constituents were analyzed at different HHP levels at 25 0C for 5 minutes. The bovine blood as the model material was separated into two major parts; namely, serum and blood cells by centrifugation. Erythrocytes were found to be mostly stable up to 220 MPa pr...
The study of disorder and nanocrystallinity in C-S-H, supplementary cementitious materials and geopolymers using pair distribution function analysis
Akgül, Çağla; Monteiro, Paulo JM (2011-07-01)
Significant progress was achieved with the application of Rietveld method to characterize the crystalline phases in portland cement paste. However, to obtain detailed information on the amorphous or poorly crystalline phases, it is necessary to analyze the total scattering data. The pair distribution function (PDF) method has been successfully used in the study of liquids and amorphous solids. The method takes the Sine Fourier transform of the measured structure factor over a wide momentum transfer range, p...
THE MECHANICAL CHARACTERIZATION AND IN VIVO EVALUATION OF POROUS TiNi AS GRAFT MATERIAL
Arpak, Bertan; Araz, Kenan; Nakas, Ipek; Bor, Sakir; Nergiz, Ibrahim (2012-09-01)
To obtain TiNi foams with interconnected pores that have surface quality necessary for bone growth in addition to required mechanical performance, sintering with the space holder technique was employed in this study, which aimed to evaluate the bone healing process of TiNi graft materials. For this purpose, processed TiNi foams with three different porosities were placed into the created defects in the femur of rats. Moreover, the mechanical properties of the processed TiNi foams were conducted via monotoni...
The investigation of quantum efficiency constituents of InAs/AlSb/GaSb based N structure type-II SL photodetectors with InAlAs interface
KILIÇ, ALİ YAVUZ; TANSEL, TUNAY; HOŞTUT, MUSTAFA; ELAGÖZ, SEZAİ; ERGÜN, YÜKSEL (IOP Publishing, 2018-09-01)
We report on the optical properties of InAs/AlSb/GaSb based Type-II superlattice N-structure with p on n configuration. The detector structure is designed to operate in the mid wavelength infrared range with 50% cut-off wavelength of 4.88 mu m at 79 K. Electronic properties of N-structure such as heavy hole-light hole splitting energies are optimized by a first principles approach taking into account InAlAs interface bonding between InAs/AlSb layers. A responsivity of 1.13 A/Wat 3.2 mu m was measured under ...
