Scaffolding middle school students' content knowledge and ill-structured problem solving in a problem-based hypermedia learning environment
Tokel, Saniye Tuğba (2010-10-01)
This study investigated the effects of domain-general and domain-specific scaffolds with different levels of support, continuous and faded, on learning of scientific content and problem-solving. Students' scores on a multiple-choice pretest, posttest, and four recommendation forms were analyzed. Students' content knowledge in all conditions significantly increased from pretest to posttest. However, the continuous domain-specific condition outperformed the other conditions on the posttest. Although domain-ge...
Scaffolding strategies in electronic performance support systems: types and challenges
Çağıltay, Kürşat (2006-02-01)
In the study described in this paper, the major components of an electronic performance support system are described and the use of scaffolding techniques within such electronic environments is explored. Four different types of scaffolding are discussed: conceptual (supportive) scaffolding, metacognitive (reflective) scaffolding, procedural scaffolding and strategic-intrinsic scaffolding. The paper also discusses some of the challenges that developers face when they plan to include scaffolding techniques as...

Torrezzan, Cristina; Van der Linden, Julio; Bohemia, Erik; Kaygan, Pınar; Bernardes, Mauricio (2019-01-01)
Professionals such as product designers, architects, and engineers have an intrinsic relationship with drawing, using it to represent everything from the creative sketches of a proposal to its production. In this sense, technical drawing and sketching techniques are a relevant part of design education. In this context, this article presents an analysis of drawings developed by product design students from different countries working in the Global Studio 2018, an international interinstitutional project. In ...
