This study presents a variational multiscale (VMS) reduced order model (ROM) based on proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) for the Darcy Brinkman equations. The idea of POD consists of extracting the dominant features of a data set, which are naturally assumed to represent Galerkin finite element solution of a partial differential equation. In this way, POD reduces the complexity of systems. Despite the widespread use of POD, it can perform quite poorly without any numerical stabilization. In this work, to obtain POD solution of the Darcy Brinkman system with double convection, we consider a projection-based VMS method as a numerical stabilization. The proposed scheme uses VMS type stabilization in POD for the velocity, temperature and concentration. For the fully discretization of the system, the finite element method is utilized for space variables and Crank Nicholson time discretization for time variables. The nonlinear term is treated with an extrapolated Crank Nicholson method. The numerical analysis for the VMS-POD is carried out and optimal error estimates are proved for each fluid variable. Numerical studies are performed to verify the theoretical findings.

A modular regularized variational multiscale proper orthogonal decomposition for incompressible flows
Eroglu, Fatma G.; Kaya Merdan, Songül; Rebholz, Leo G. (Elsevier BV, 2017-10-01)
In this paper, we propose, analyze and test a post-processing implementation of a projection-based variational multiscale (VMS) method with proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) for the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations. The projection-based VMS stabilization is added as a separate post-processing step to the standard POD approximation, and since the stabilization step is completely decoupled, the method can easily be incorporated into existing codes, and stabilization parameters can be tuned independe...
A GPU-accelerated adaptive discontinuous Galerkin method for level set equation
KARAKUS, A.; WARBURTON, T.; AKSEL, MEHMET HALUK; Sert, Cüneyt (2016-01-02)
This paper presents a GPU-accelerated nodal discontinuous Galerkin method for the solution of two- and three-dimensional level set (LS) equation on unstructured adaptive meshes. Using adaptive mesh refinement, computations are localised mostly near the interface location to reduce the computational cost. Small global time step size resulting from the local adaptivity is avoided by local time-stepping based on a multi-rate Adams-Bashforth scheme. Platform independence of the solver is achieved with an extens...
An alternative simple solution of the sextic anharmonic oscillator and perturbed coulomb problems
IKHDAİR, SAMEER; Sever, Ramazan (World Scientific Pub Co Pte Lt, 2007-10-01)
Utilizing an appropriate ansatz to the wave function, we reproduce the exact bound-state solutions of the radial Schrodinger equation to various exactly solvable sextic an-harmonic oscillator and confining perturbed Coulomb models in D-dimensions. We show that the perturbed Coulomb problem with eigenvalue E can be transformed to a sextic anharmonic oscillator problem with eigenvalue P. We also check the explicit relevance of these two related problems in higher-space dimensions. It is shown that exact solut...
A neuro-fuzzy MAR algorithm for temporal rule-based systems
Sisman, NA; Alpaslan, Ferda Nur; Akman, V (1999-08-04)
This paper introduces a new neuro-fuzzy model for constructing a knowledge base of temporal fuzzy rules obtained by the Multivariate Autoregressive (MAR) algorithm. The model described contains two main parts, one for fuzzy-rule extraction and one for the storage of extracted rules. The fuzzy rules are obtained from time series data using the MAR algorithm. Time-series analysis basically deals with tabular data. It interprets the data obtained for making inferences about future behavior of the variables. Fu...
A generalisation of the Morse inequalities
Bhupal, Mohan Lal (Cambridge University Press (CUP), 2001-06-01)
In this paper we construct a family of variational families for a Legendrian embedding, into the 1-jet bundle of a closed manifold, that can be obtained from the zero section through Legendrian embeddings, by discretising the action functional. We compute the second variation of a generating function obtained as above at a nondegenerate critical point and prove a formula relating the signature of the second variation to the Maslov index as the mesh goes to zero. We use this to prove a generalisation of the ...
