Effect of surface type on structural and optical properties of Ag nanoparticles formed by dewetting
Tanyeli, Irem; Nasser, Hisham; ES, FIRAT; Bek, Alpan; Turan, Raşit (2013-09-09)
Integration of an array of Ag nanoparticles in solar cells is expected to increase light trapping through field enhancement and plasmonic scattering. Requirement of Ag nanoparticle decoration of cell surfaces or interfaces at the macro-scale, calls for a self-organized fabrication method such as thermal dewetting. Optical properties of a 2D array of Ag nanoparticles are known to be very sensitive to their shape and size. We show that these parameters depend on the type of the substrate used. We observe that...
Effect of changing biomass source on radiative heat transfer during co-firing of high-sulfur content lignite in fluidized bed combustors
Ates, CİHAN; Selçuk, Nevin; Külah, Görkem (2018-01-05)
In this study, effect of changing biomass source on radiative heat transfer during co-firing of high-sulfur content lignite in the freeboard of 300 kW(t) Atmospheric Bubbling Fluidized Bed Combustor (ABFBC) is investigated by using an in-house developed radiation code based on Method of Lines (MOL) solution of Discrete Ordinates Method (DOM). The freeboard is treated as a 3D rectangular enclosure containing gray, absorbing, emitting gas with absorbing, emitting, anisotropically scattering particles surround...
Effect of mechanical activation on thermal energy storage properties of Co3O4/CoO system
Nekokar, Nariman; Pourabdoli, Mehdi; Hamidi, Ahmad Ghaderi; Üner, Deniz (2018-02-01)
The heat produced by a solar receiver during on-sun operation can be employed to drive the endothermic reduction reaction of Co3O4 to CoO; then the consumed thermal energy can be recovered completely by the exothermic reverse oxidation reaction of CoO to Co3O4 which can take place during off-sun operation. In this research, the effect of mechanical activation duration (1, 2, 4, 8, and 16 h) on thermal energy storage by Co3O4/CoO redox pair was investigated. It was found that increasing the mechanical activa...
Effect of Boron Phosphate on the Mechanical, Thermal and Fire Retardant Properties of Polypropylene and Polyamide-6 Fibers
DOĞAN, Mehmet; Bayramlı, Erdal (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2013-10-01)
The effect of boron phosphate (BPO4) nanoparticles on the mechanical, thermal, and flame retardant properties of polypropylene (PP) and polyamide 6 (PA-6) fibers are investigated by tensile testing, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), differential scanning calorimeter (DSC), and micro combustion calorimeter (MCC). The addition of BPO4 reduces the mechanical properties of the both PP and PA-6 fibers. According to the TGA results, the addition of BPO4 does not change the thermal behavior of PP fiber and slightl...
Effects of electrolyte pattern on mechanical and electrochemical properties of solid oxide fuel cells
TİMURKUTLUK, BORA; Celik, Selahattin; Toros, Serkan; Timurkutluk, Cigdem; Mat, Mahmut D.; Kaplan, Yuksel (2012-09-01)
In order to enhance the electrochemical performance and reduce the operation temperature of a conventional electrolyte supported solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC), a three layered electrolyte with various geometry is designed and fabricated. Novel three layered electrolytes comprise a dense and thin scandia alumina stabilized zirconia (ScAlSZ) electrolyte layer sandwiched between two hallow ScAlSZ electrolyte layers each having the same thickness as the support but machined into a filter like architecture in the...
