This study was conducted to determine the wastewater characteristics as well as the treatment alternatives for the Tafkopru Pulp and Paper Mill in Turkey. The physico-chemical treatability study was conducted by standard Jar-test equipment. The highest COD removal efficiency obtained was 96% for the paper machine, 50% for the alkali extraction and 20% for the bleaching effluents by using alum as coagulant. The colour removal efficiency was around 80% for the alkali extraction effluents. TREATMENT OF EFFLUENTS FROM HEMP-BASED PULP AND PAPER-INDUSTRY .1. WASTE CHARACTERIZATION AND PHYSICOCHEMICAL TREATABILITY
Dilek, Filiz Bengü (1994-01-01)

Reducing chlorinated organics, AOX, in the bleachery effluents of a Turkish pulp and paper plant
Yetiş, Ülkü; Gokcay, CF (1996-01-01)
The possibility for reducing the chlorinated organic compounds in the bleacheary effluents of the Turkish pulp and paper industry has been studied. Within the experimental work of this study, three different chlorine dioxide substitutions and three different total chlorine application rates were examined and nine experiments were performed. The AOX formation has been shown to be proportional to the amount of molecular chlorine consumed during delignification, regardless of whether it is from chlorine or chl...
Treatment of effluents from hemp based pulp and paper industry II biological treatability of pulping effluents
Gökçay, Celal; Dilek, Filiz Bengü (IWA Publishing; 1993-10-13)
This paper is focussed on the biological treatability studies of pulping effluents from a hemp-based pulp and paper industry. Experiments were conducted by using white fungus, Phanerochaete chrysosporium, in a laboratory batch reactor. It was found that the colour removal efficiency is 75% for pulping effluents in the presence of high concentrations of glucose.
TREATMENT OF EFFLUENTS FROM HEMP-BASED PULP AND PAPER-INDUSTRY .2. BIOLOGICAL TREATABILITY OF PULPING EFFLUENTS

Treatment of olive mill wastewater by different physicochemical methods and utilization of their liquid effluents for biological hydrogen production
Eroglu, Ela; Erolu, Inci; Gündüz, Ufuk; Yucel, Meral (2009-04-01)
in this study various two-stage processes were investigated for biological hydrogen production from olive mill wastewater (OMW) by Rhodobacter sphaeroides O.U.001. Two-stage processes consist of physicochemical pretreatment of OMW followed by photofermentation for hydrogen production. Explored pretreatment methods were chemical oxidation with ozone and Fenton's reagent, photodegradation by UV radiation, and adsorption with clay or zeolite. Among these different two-stage processes, strong chemical oxidants ...
