Bathymetry and Water Quality Measurement of Shallow Waters using Hyperion: Sercin Lake
Ozdemir, Ayfer; Leloğlu, Uğur Murat (2014-04-25)
Hyperspectral images are very useful in estimating dense bathymetry of shallow waters cost-effectively. In this study, work on Lake Sercin using Hyperion images is summarized. Firstly, outlier pixels are determined by using median filtering on vertical profiles to handle the radiometric calibration problem that manifests itself as vertical stripes and their effect is removed. Remaining effect is suppressed using horizontal smoothing on the profile. Following the removal of radiometric and atmospheric effect...
Remotely Sensed Terrestrial Water Balance of the Nile Basin

Satellite-derived estimates of precipitation, evapotranspiration (ET), and water storage have transformed our understanding of hydrological dynamics at the basin scale. At the same time, the profusion of satellite and model-generated hydrological estimates has demonstrated that there is still considerable uncertainty associated with the quantification of hydrologic states and fluxes at basin scale: the use of different combinations of data products can lead to dramatically different conclusions regarding wa...
ADJOINT BASED SHAPE OPTIMIZATION OF SEMI-SUBMERGED INLETS AND DEVELOPMENT OF A NOVEL BOUNDARY LAYER DIVERTER
Küçük, Umut Can; Tuncer, İsmail Hakkı; Department of Aerospace Engineering (2022-12-28)
In this study, boundary layer ingesting and diverting submerged air inlets are design optimized with an adjoint-based optimization methodology based on RANS solu tions. The opensource SU2 software is employed for both RANS and adjoint solutions and for driving the gradient-based optimization. Total pressure recovery at the aerodynamic interface plane is taken as the main objective of the optimization, and the mass flow rate and the momentum distortion are closely monitored. It is first shown that the shape ...
Field measurements and modeling of groundwater flow and biogeochemistry at Moses Hammock, a backbarrier island on the Georgia coast
Porubsky, W. P.; Joye, S. B.; Moore, W. S.; Tuncay, Kağan; Meile, C. (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2011-07-01)
A combination of field measurements, laboratory experiments and model simulations were used to characterize the groundwater biogeochemical dynamics along a shallow monitoring well transect on a coastal hammock. A switch in the redox status of the dissolved inorganic nitrogen (DIN) pool in the well at the upland/saltmarsh interface occurred over the spring-neap tidal transition: the DIN pool was dominated by nitrate during spring tide and by ammonium during neap tide. A density-dependent reaction-transport m...
Accuracy assessment of MODIS daily snow albedo retrievals with in situ measurements in Karasu basin, Turkey
Tekeli, AE; Sensoy, A; Sorman, A; Akyürek, Sevda Zuhal; Sorman, U (Wiley, 2006-03-15)
Over the ablation period of 2004, daily snow albedo values retrieved from the moderate-resolution imaging spectroradiometer (MODIS) Terra were compared with ground-based albedo measurements. Two data sets are used for this study. The first data set is from two automatic weather stations (AWS) located at fixed points in Karasu basin in eastern Turkey. This provided the temporal assessment of MODIS daily snow albedo values. The second data set, consisting of 19 observation points randomly distributed around o...
